This is my last photo of this Barreito serie.

The famous tide mill in ruins.

Tide mills are situated along the estuary of the River Tagus and are considered to be an important part of Portuguese heritage dating back to pre-industrialisation.

These large solid structures made of stone have great architectural value and in former times were the basis of a small flour-milling industry which was particularly important in the making of ‘biscoitos’, a type of sea-biscuit used on ship voyages during the Portuguese Discovery period in the XV century.

A significant number of these tide mills can be found in the River Tagus basin, close to the capital, Lisbon, however the largest number of tide mills is recorded in the Algarve region with a total of 47 units.

This paper will establish the economic role tide mills played in Portuguese pre-industrial history.

It will also outline the cultural aspects of tide mills, referring to their historical content, draw attention to their present state of abandonment, and in some cases ruin, and will highlight the urgent need for their classification, conservation and renovation.

Olá Aires,
Barreiro Harbour, muito destruído,mas que é um bom cenário para se fotografar.É uma pena não se ter preservado esse património dos moinhos de água que são uma peça tão bonita e interessante.Gosto da composição e reflexo na agua.

Bonjour Aires,
voilà tout l'art de rendre des ruines aussi intersssantes qu'une architecture intacte.
Les couleurs sont magnifiques, du ciel à cette eau pas très appétissante.
J'ai l'impression que certains coins de la photo manquent un peu de piqué.
Mais ce n'est peut-être qu'une impression.

biscoitos is "biscuit" in romanian and eat it just if I'm very,very,hungry..:))an interesting serie from Barreiro..this one have nice reflections,warm colors and good angle to show us this old tide mills..in ruins..hope,one day,to show us the tide mills renovated..well,wish you nice Sunday!

A well chosen POV showing the textured ruin in a diagonal position, with fine light and colors and correct sharpness.
Nice clear reflections and the open space on the left side gives depth to this picture.

Aires, apesar de ser uma casa caindo de velha e falta de cuidados, a foto está excelente. Gostei muito dos reflexos e da nitidez que aumentou as texturas nas paredes da casa.

Assim como em cores, acredito que essa foto funcionaria também muito bem em PB, dê uma olhada no WS.

you present us a wonderful coloured one in really bad conditions. The mill is nothing else as a ruin. Not the capture. Very nice POV with good reflections and brightness.

Olá Aires,
Tal qual como no Seixal, os moinhos estão a cair de velho e embora sejam um belo sujeito para umas fotos é uma pena que os nossos governantes não olhem para eles com outros olhos e os conservem. Apesar do que disse é precisamente este aspecto envelhecido e decrépito que causa impacto aqui em conjugação com este céu nublado e com os reflexos na água.
Uma bela composição de um local que fica a uns minutos de barco do Seixal mas que sinceramente não faço a minima ideia de onde fica.

Bom dia Aires, cá está a nota dos moinhos de maré :) Apesar de esta não ter barcos é talvez a que gosto mais da série, pela proximidade às ruínas. O dia estava muito bonito e as cores estão fantásticas, se bem que até acho piada à proposta a p&b. Excelente composição e aproveitamento dos reflexos na zona dos arcos.

Depois de algum tempo fora disto...cá estou eu de volta ;-)
Esta está muito bonita com este velho moinho abandonado.
Acho que escolheste muito bem o ângulo para o fotografar.
As cores estão muito boas e as texturas destas velhas paredes estão perfeitas.
Por acaso nunca me deu para ir fotografar para o Barreiro porque acho que é uma cidade muito feia...mas já vi que tem algumas coisas interessantes.
Espero que um dia venhas explorar aqui a minha terrinha também ...eheh

Hi Aires,
Nice composition of a beautiful landscape, good POV too.
But, I don't understand why you used so shallow DOF. the clouds and bg are very soft. IMO I would have preferred a deeper DOF.
You had enough light to go for f8 or f11.. you shoot at 1/1200.
Good effort anyway.
