Photographer’s Note

After some time away, I’m back today with another photo from my aquatic birds series.
This one is a Black_backed Gull, that I’ve captured on one of many piers in Ginjal(Almada).
I think I had too much luck with this girl because ussually gulls don’t let humans go so near to them.
I was about 50cms of her, when I saw her I start my aproach with small steps with no brusques moviments. It was one step and a long wait to let her be familiar with my presence, then another stap and another wait….and so on.
It was a nice felling to see her looking to my eyes.
The Black-backed Gull, Larus marinus, is a very large gull which breeds on the European and North American coasts and islands of the North Atlantic. It is fairly sedentary, but some Great Black-backed Gulls move further south or inland to large lakes or reservoirs.
This species breeds singly or in small colonies, making a lined nest on the ground often on top of a rocky stack. 3-5 eggs are laid.
This is the largest gull
It is 61-74 cm long with a 1.4 to 1.7 m wingspan. It is bulky, and has a powerful beak. The adults have black wings and back, with conspicuous white "mirrors" at the wing tips. The legs are pinkish, and the beak yellow with a red spot.
