Moorish Fountain
Volta do Duche, Sintra - Portugal

The Moorish Fountain is the work of Sintra master sculptor
José da Fonseca and was built in 1922.
It belongs to the romantic revivalist period;
the Moorish inspiration is apparent from the neo Mudejar
azuelos and sculptured decoration.
Built in the shape of a horseshoe enclosing three arches,
the inside of the fountain is also richly tile decorated
and the sides of the oval pond have stone sculptured leaves.
Local people still use the fountain as a water source.
