Another picture of my SUNRISE’s serie.

This is the Pavillion of Portugal, from a not standard view. In foreground you can see the Tagus river and the Telpher railway.

In the WS you can see a different POV

Pavillion of Portugal

The Pavilhão de Portugal of the Expo´98 is situated near the north-east corner of the Molhe (pier) dos Olivais. The span between the building and the river-bank is covered by a balcony held by graceful pillars and forms a lateral porch fixed to the east façade.
This construction, made of concrete, was not assigned any determined use for after the event, so it required a great flexibility and versatility in terms of space, while its representative function demanded a clear and powerful image.

The building, rising on a north-south axis, is formed by two bodies separated by a construction joint.
The first unit is really a great ceremonial square flanked, on the north and south, by two large porticos lined with tiles of different colours, between which an extremely thin blade of concrete draws a curve, like a giant canvas.
The second body is a building of rectangular shape with a basement and two storeys. These three floors «grow» around a patio with earth on the ground, so as to allow trees to be planted.

A complentary body of two floors stands out from a corner of the building, separated from the main construction by a gallery.

Pavilhão de Portugal

O Pavilhão de Portugal da Expo´98 está localizado junto ao canto noroeste do Molhe dos Olivais. A faixa entre o edifício e a margem está coberta por uma varanda apoiada em esbeltos pilares e forma um enorme alpendre lateral colado à fachada oriental.
Esta construção, realizada em betão armado, não tinha um uso determinado depois do evento, pelo que exigia uma grande flexibilidade e versatilidade do espaço, enquanto a sua função representativa requeria uma imagem clara e poderosa.

O edifício, que se desenvolve segundo um eixo norte-sul, consta de dois corpos separados por uma junta construtiva.
O primeiro é, na realidade, uma grande praça cerimonial flanqueada a norte e a sul por dois grandes pórticos, revestidos de azulejos de diversas cores, entre os quais se estende uma lâmina de betão muito fina que descreve uma curva, como uma lona gigantesca.

O segundo corpo consiste num edifício de planta rectangular com cave e dois pisos. Estes três andares desenvolvem-se em torno de um pátio cheio de terra até ao nível do solo, para permitir a plantação de árvores.
De um canto do edifício sobressai um corpo complementar, de dois pisos, separado da construção principal por uma galeria.

Olá Aires,
Absolutamente fabulosa! O enquadramento está genial, com tudo no sítio certo (até a boca de incêndio e o caixote de lixo!), a luminosidade e cores são de cortar a respiração. O laranja em baixo faz um belo contraste com o azulão do céu e os roxos e rosas do nascer do sol debaixo da famosa pala quase que parecem um cenário cuidadosamente pintado ou impresso.

From all the ones already posted in this series, this one is the one I like more. The angle chosen is very nice and create a good graphic effect with the colorful roof in diagonal in the composition.

Ahhh, cá está a minha preferida :) Bom dia Aires, adoro o minimalismo destas linhas e a leveza da Pala é espectacular. Percebo a escolha desta para principal, mas acho que continuo a ficar com o WS, principalmente por causa do caixote do lixo (mas também da boca de incêndio) - numa imagem tão limpa, estes objectos urbanos ganham uma importância que não deviam. O azul do céu e a luz na pala são lindíssimos.

I like the warm light, the colours spots and this mixture of straight and curved lines in the capture. The marvellous sky from the Blue Hour does the final rest, wonderful result.

This could be used as a paint ad...the colours are so perfect. I love it except for that garbage can right in the middle. Fortunately it is camouflaged as it has the same colour with the ground.
