Mulheres do Mercado da Ribeira
(Women of the River Market)

Displayed here is a banner spanning the width of the top floor of the Mercado da Ribeira.
This floor used to be the flower market, but is now in use as exposition space and Loja de Artesanato (tiles, glasswork, traditional foodstuff etc). In the exposition space photos of the end of the 19th century were on display, the time when this Mercado was built.

The Mercado was inaugurated in 1882. After a fire which destroyed it, was rebuilt between 1902 and 1930 superintended by Pessoano Garcia.. On the ground floor of the The Mercado da Ribeira is Lisbon's biggest open food market, is a miniature city of stalls given over to an unbelievable selection of fruit, vegetables, fish, meat and seafood .

PCS tech: corrected for perspective distortion, cropped, contrast and levels adjusted (the banner separately) USM-ed frame added and saved for the web.

Hi Bert,
Prachtig die mooie beige-bruine tinten. Het doek zo mooi aangepast aan de vorm onder het spant. Er valt heel veel te zien op deze foto.
M'n complimenten.

Hoi Bert,
Dit kleuren, wanneer ik in oude foto van mijn ouders en grootouders zit te snuffelen onmiddellijk herken, zelf de hoofddeksels gaan even terug in de tijd, ik vind dit wel mooi gevonden Bert, mag absoluut gezien zijn en zeker ook op kwalitatief gebied.

Hi Bert, actually, I did not think of Portugal, but more about the Wild west somehow, and I really don't know why!You got some nice diagonals in this one, Bert, and a good triangel as well. It's almost a monochrome picture this way.
I'm not sure whether I have been there, I DO like markets very much.

Ik vind hem mooi Bert,
Het zou zo een foto kunnen zijn van de jaarlijkse Rotterdamse filmweek en dat bedoel ik dus als een compliment. Prachtige compositie, mooie lijnen, uitstekend werk.

An interesting find from the market hall, Bert. The banner with the period photograph makes an interesting decoration below the roof of the market hall. The architectural elements have been well included for the symmetrical framing, and I also like how it initially looks like a sepia photo but definitely is a color shot. It would be interesting to see the surveillance camera's (at least that's what the thing beside the lamp looks like) perspective of you taking the photo ;-)

Hoi Bert,
Erg aparte en originele foto. Ik moest eerst even goed kijken wat het nou was. De lijnen vind ik erg mooi, ze lopen allemaal naar 1 punt, behalve dan de balken boven de ramen. Mooie zachte kleuren verder ook.

A fascinating shot here. The poster of the women is well captured, and it is itself an interesting shot. I too like the diagonals, it makes for a very nice submission, congratulations and keep them coming. Good idea to adjust the levels on the banner separately. How do you do that?
