This is another panel of glazed tiles that illustrate one of the best Portuguese times, The Age of Discoveries (the name given to the intensive maritime exploration by the Portuguese during the 15th and 16th centuries).
Portuguese sailors were at the vanguard of European overseas exploration, discovering and mapping the coasts of Africa, Asia and Brazil, in what become known as the Age of Discovery. Methodical expeditions started in 1419 along West Africa's coast under the sponsorship of prince Henry the Navigator, reaching the Cape of Good Hope and entering the Indian Ocean in 1488. Ten years later, Vasco da Gama led the first fleet around Africa to India, arriving in Calicut and starting a maritime route from Portugal to India. Soon, after reaching Brazil, explorations proceed to southeast Asia, having reached Japan in 1542.

Portuguese azulejos-an inexhaustible subject for photographers.
Superb composition and close-up!
And I like here the way the shade divides the scene into two parts.Just great!
Have a nice day

Ciao dear Daniel
A very artistic composition of these wonderful and very famous ceramics. I like the play of light and shade, which give the impression of almost 2 different photos. The large white frame complements it all very nicely and the sharpness and depth are very impressive. Nice work.
have a happy day

I love these tiled murals, which seem so popular in Portugal and Spain. Always fascinating to see and some are really huge. This one is beautifully detailed and so impressive. A wonderful capture which looks almost 3 dimensional in this presentation. Excellent!

I remember azulejos very well during my trip to Portugal and how much enchanting were these blue paintings. The one you are showing is very lovely indeed and I like how there is some shadow on part of it, which makes it look more natural and less flat.
Well presented, with excellent sharpness and pretty colors.
Thanks for sharing

Extremely interesting and beautifully captured art. Like it a lot! The small part with the shadow is still well executed and made the whole scene more attractive in my opinion. Well done!

Ces azulejos sont assez spectaculaires. C'est le cas de celui que tu nous proposes ici.

I like this original idea to place this art work with the stripe of the shadow. It makes this usual street picture more interesting.
Good title, the note is very useful.
Have a good Friday!
