Alfama roofs, a photo from Lisboa, South

Photographer's Note

Alfama is the oldest district of Lisbon and it is a delight to explore the maze of narrow streets which climb up from the Rio Tejo to the Castle of São Jorge. The steep ramshackle streets of medieval buildings have not altered since their construction, both surviving the destructive 1755 earthquake and the more recent trend of modernisation. Alfama was historically the seedy and impoverished neighbourhood of Lisbon but today is a favourite with tourists. An enjoyable few hours can be spent wandering Alfama while savouring the traditional Portuguese culture that is preserved within Alfama.

finally the view of Lisbon red roofs.I know this point of view.It´s just awesome to show the panorama of Alfama district.The colors and its saturation is superb,so vibrant.Excellent clarity and contrast,especially red vs blue tones it´s eye-catching.

A splendid view over these many and varied roofs. The rich red tones of the tiles make a great contrast with the pale blue tones of sky and river. Very good clarity.

A lovely panorama over this townscape with greatclours form the roofs of the houses contrasting nciely with both the white of the buildings and the blue of the sky. Lots of detail for your eye to linger on as it travels through the shot.

I remember standing here as well. I like the POV you've chosen here with the windows in the FG and the rooftops gradually leading us into the frame to the cupola in the BG.

I love these rooftop scenes, they are so typically Mediterranean and add such character, texture and colour to the image. The addition of the sea and the slight haaze from the heat beautifully demonstrates this long hot summer.
