Photographer’s Note

It seems that almost every Portuguese member of TE has at least one post of this area of Lisboa, the Parque das Nações (Park of Nations), so now it's my turn, with this photo taken inside the Science Museum named Pavilhão do Conhecimento - Ciência Viva (Knowledge Pavillion - Alive Science). The name denounces the first function of the building where it is housed, which was one of the pavillions of the Universal Expo held in Lisboa in 1998.

Knojo! ( is the name of the temporary exhibition that was in place from October 2007 to August 2008, which presented in a humorous way some the organic processes of the human body that cause the most disgusting things, like every kind of bad smells, noises, mucus, etc. Quite a strange theme for a science exhibition, but it was so well setup that I believe it was really educative and it was a great success. "Knojo!" is a corruption of "que nojo!" (how disgusting!) and the subtitle of the exhibition was "The indiscreet science of the human body".

Here is the translation of the presentation introduction of the exhibition:

«What causes bad breath? And the sweat smell? Where do the strange noises made by the stomach come from? The nose mucus is made of what?

Science is everywhere and seeks the answer to every questions... even to these ones!

A nauseatingly fascinating exhibition about your body and all of the most bewildering things produced in it.

Come experiment, smell and feel.»
