I don't think I can make a better introduction here than the DK guidebook to Portugal:
Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, a monument to the wealth of the Age of Discovery, is the culmination of Manueline architecture, commissioned by Manuel I in around 1501 after Vasco da Gama’s return from his historic voyage
The spectacular vaulting in the church of Santa Maria is held aloft by slender octagonal pillars. These rise like palm trees to the roof creating a feeling of space and harmony.

On December 13, 2007 the Treaty of Lisbon has been signed at the monastery, laying down the basis for the reform of the European Union.

As you may have noticed I live currently in Ireland, which few days ago voted for the second time, this time to finally accept the Treaty of Lisbon. Lisbon was in these days certainly the most popular word in this country.
In the workshop I present the replica of the Treaty which may be seen in the pavement in front of the monastery.

I believe the Irish people made the right choice...
Anyway, this is a beautiful sight of the famous monastery, in clear colour tones and excellent sharpness.

The view is really impressive from inside , vaults , textures , columns , geommetrical History and a treaty that digs and scratchs into the depths of an alleged integration i don´t actually see and less agree with ...

cześć Mariusz, na czasie zdjęcie, połączenie Lizbony z Irlandią:). Kiedy ja będę mogła skorzystać z tego pomysłu? Znakomite zdjęcie wnętrza kościoła hieronimitów. Piękne sklepienie i te rzeźbione kolumny.

Albo Ty masz szczescie do tych spektakularnych wnetrz, albo ja po prostu robie blad, omijajac je w niewiedzy. Jeszcze nie tak dawno zaladowales swietny suficik z Barcelony a tu nastepny, robiacy wrazenie interior. Kreatywny PP ladnie powyciagal detale z cieni. Swietna prezentacja!

Hi, Mariusz. What I appreciate most from a photographic point of view is the fantastic light there is in this image. Another interesting point is the good perspective created by the alignment of pillars leading to the choir in the background. The richness of details also allows us to admire the refined architecture of the church.
