Tomorrow morning I'll be heading to Porto to discover the other great city of Portugal. See you in 9 days with a lot of images I hope.
The 50-metre-diameter (160 ft) Rosa-dos-Ventos (compass rose) was executed using different types of marble. Designed by the architect Cristino da Silva, it includes a Mappa mundi that is 14 metres wide, showing the routes of Portuguese carracks and caravels during the Age of Discovery.

Brilliant travel shot! The map and the compass would have been enough to take an interesting photo but with the people it looks almost surreal. Looking at it makes me feel like Gulliver in Lilliput! :-)
Have a great time in Porto!

Perfect framing! I like the inclusion of the people who contribute much to the atmosphere of the shot. Superb rendering of the colours and detail. Enjoy your trip to Porto, yet another place on my bucket list.

enjoy Porto, I know how much you like Portugal so this is a good shot to post before departure. What an amazing piece of artwork, the symmetry and scale of it are so obvious in this excellent shot.

It is only when you open this and recognise the scale of the compass that you gain its full impact! A stunning, nicely symmetrical photo.

Quel superbe point de vue sur cette mappe monde et les quatre points cardinaux.J'aime la symétrie de l'ensemble et la gestion de la lumière forte. Les couleurs sont très jolies.

A great composition. The effect of the very small persons on this huge mosaic is stunning. Very well seen. Good luck in Porto. It's a scenic city where you will find just as many photo opportunities as in Lisbon.

It was a fun surprise to open this and notice allthose people investigating the map and other patterns! This is huge! And you had a good high viewpoint to realize this vision. Careful symmtric framing works well.

Seems you still had this great shot of Lisbon in your archives! I never took a photo from this place but it's a great pov. I like the shot with the people on the pavement, they really add a lot and seem so small from there.

Can you believe that I didn't even notice this huge compass before climbing to the Padrão dos Descobrimentos?!?!
I like your presentation because you didn't try to show us the whole compass but concentrated on its core plus you used vertical layout which somehow gives it a whole different, elongated perspective. Love it...
