A lobster trap or lobster pot is a portable trap that traps lobsters or crayfish and is used in lobster fishing. A lobster trap can hold several lobsters. Lobster traps are constructed of wire and wood. An opening permits the lobster to enter a tunnel of netting. Pots are usually constructed in two parts, called the "chamber" or “kitchen”, where there is bait, and exits into the “parlour”, where it is trapped from escape. Lobster pots are usually dropped to the sea floor about a dozen at a time, and are marked by a buoy so they can be picked up later.
The trap can consist of a wooden frame surrounded by a rope mesh. The majority of the newer traps found in the Northeast of the USA and the Canadian Maritimes consist of a plastic-coated metal frame. A piece of bait, often fish or chum, is placed inside the trap, and the traps are dropped onto the sea floor. A long rope is attached to each trap, at the end of which is a plastic or styrofoam buoy that bears the owner's license number. The entrances to the traps are designed to be one-way entrances only. The traps are checked every other day by the fisherman and rebaited if necessary. One study indicated that lobster traps are very inefficient and allow almost all lobsters to escape. Automatic rebaiting improves efficiency.

Perfect ribbing of the traps and the sea waves.
Amazing capture, my neighbour, I can imagine a smell of this place. Well done, Daniel. Clever composition, vivid colors!
Have a great WE!

An excellent pic !
I like the contrast of the overcrowded pack of lobster traps with the loneliness of the colorful boat on the quiet serene and luminous sea
Bravo, well done
Have a nice day

Nicely composed shot from a high vantage point, Daniel - you're very good at getting these downward angles in many of your shots.
I like the graphism here of the piles of traps next to the rippling water, with the bright red boat there to draw the eye. I wonder if a slightly tighter crop on the right to get rid of the brick might balance it better?

interesting subject and very neatly composed photo. I like how you placed the lobsters' cages in the foreground as a leading theme and this colorful boat in the background. Nice contrast, colors and sharpness.

you are presenting a thoroughly composed impression of the seaside. Your POV works excellently and you took a great advantage of these interesting structures. The nicely contrasting colors and the light are very pleasing. My compliments also for the interesting notes!

This is a very fine photo. The traps have created a fine and unusual pattern of grey and green, the red details make the boat stand out very brightly, and the blue and green shades of the water are really beautiful, made even better by the slight ripples of the surface.

Ahh now you're making me hungry. I think a nice lobster mornay would go down beautifully :) Excellent high viewpoint you got, the ripples on the water are exquisite and I love the graphism which the lobster pots create. Excellent photo, YUMMY!
Have a lovely weekend

Well spotted and composed. I'm headed this week down to Tasmania where you get the best lobsters in Australia - hope to eat a couple!

what a great photo.
it has a tremendous graphical effect.
the look has a wicked effect on my eyes, the longer i view it the more my eyes hurt!

love this! It is so simple and a beautifully creative observational image. The contrasting textures of the pots and the waters is fantastic and makes the shot work so superbly. The boat placed at an angle is just right at giving the image balance and that little splash of colour to top it all off. An imaginative and perfectly executed image of real style and quality. Well done Daniel.
Enjoy your weekend - Brian.

Very well composed shot of a particular feature of the harbour. The textures of the rippling water, the lobster traps and the cobbled pavement make for an interesting photograph. The fishing boat, well placed in the image, adds a bright splash of colour.
Have a nice weekend.

Well-spotted and used great photo opportunity! The rough texture of the lobster traps contrasts well with the smooth surface of the water and the red boat adds a strong point of focus.
Have a nice weekend

Sharpness, exposure, colors and grey & white borders are excellent photo qualities, but original chosen pov and composition are the real highlights here!

This is wonderful subject, lobster traps rarely seen on TE on this scale, indeed you have such great eye. The high pov has revealed the distinctive subject in contrast to the rest of elements while thebold colored boat adds as an additional strong focal point. Needless to mention how the wonderful ripply water has further enhanced the effect. A remarkable shot, I am very impressed.

Ninello52 (7542) 2013-02-18 9:56
Very beautiful this shot from above! You can well appreciate the graphics of lobster traps resting on the pier that make up well with the sea and the boat! Beautiful the colors and the cut of the image!
Best regards, Nino.

Ciao e buona giornata
