Photographer’s Note

Cemetery of Evoramonte, inside the castle walls. It looks like other Catholic cemeteries [*] in Portugal, but it is particularly compact because of the obvious deficit of space inside the castle. It is in front of the parish church, the Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição (Our Lady of Conception), which is in dire need of a coat of paint (see workshop #1).
The square blue traffic sign means, at least in Europe, street or road without exit (or no thru traffic; I’m not sure in English). It is meant for the street, as the road is not suitable for vehicles beyond that castle gate in background. However, as the sign should be at the beginning of the street and it is actually over the cemetery gate, we can imagine it applied to the journey of those who rest in the cemetery.
In the workshop #2 you have a better view of that castle gate (which is not the main gate); beyond it, downhill, you can glimpse some houses of the newer town of Evoramonte.
