A different photo this time. This is a detail of one of many impressive marble quarries that we can find in the Alentejo. Known as Marble of Estremoz, it can be found in Estremoz and also in the area of other surrounding towns like Vila Viçosa, Borba, Alandroal and Sousel - together they form the Marble Zone. From this region the marble is exported to everywhere around the world.

A really impressive staircase descending along the marble wall
Does not look very secure actually ! I wonder what it's used for
Have a nice evening, all the best

Very nice capture of this interesting marble quarry.
Very good compo.
I don't know if this quarry is still in user but most probably yes. As the blocks are quite massive and almost without any cracks.
TFS and best regards

The thumbnail for the photo looked like a close up of a column, the full size reveals why it's called "The Quarry." Colors and sharpness are excellent. The lack of sense of scale, in spite of the staircases, is astounding and immerses the viewer into the scene. This is an exquisite photo, congrats and TFS.

Excellent graphical crop with strong lines and warm shades of ocre. It looks as if these huge marble blocks had been stacked one on top the other. The zigzag staircase is a nice complement that gives scale to this colossal quarry. Well done.

Hello Ana - What a great shot. I love the way you have cropped and composed this with the quarry walls and zigzagging staircase giving a graphical look to the subject. Not a place to work if you don't have a head for heights! Where were you standing when you took this? I have visions of you hanging on to a sheer rock face by your toenails ;)
Warm regards Rosemary

That's a big WOW, Ana.
Before opened the thumbernail and red the note, did not have in mind what this really is.
Most impressive, the stairways scaled the view, enormous height considered to be there - and all for big chunks of marble.
Superbly taken and shown.

It was not so easy to grasp this photo from the thumbnail, so it was some surprise to see the full size. It's a stunning view and a great composition of high graphic value. The steep side of the quarry has been given a fascinating pattern, and the ladder going zigzag down the side adds another interesting shape. This is an original composition and I like it a lot.

Thank you for a new favorite :) This is amazing, I have never ever seen a sight like this before! The diagonal lines of the steps rising up among the horizontal lines of the rocks is fascinating, and you captured this under such superb light. The texure of the rock is amazing, I expect to feel it if I touch my monitor! Brilliant photo, thanks for sharing this gem.
all the best

Yikes! Who in their right mind makes this trek up and down the stairs? This is crazy...and cool! :) What a great concept and approach for this picture, and I love the originality it brings...an unexpected and pleasant surprise. The colors are outstanding, the rustic orange and yellow layers pop right off of the monitor. Good idea to use a vertical composition as well, enhancing the graphic effect. Very well realized and presented. Enjoy the day ahead. Take care.

Wow! This is an impressive shot, that fills the frame with its subject, insisting on the depth and sheerness of that rock wall. I'm not keen on heights and don't fancy negotiating that ladder, but your photograph certainly has drama (and vertigo!)

I wasn't sure at first what I was looking at. A most unusual picture with both interest and visual impact. The staircase gives some sense of scale but it is the steaks of gorgeous colour that impress me the most. A brilliant image.
Kind Regards, Ann

Bel effet graphique des escaliers sur le fond colorée et d'une texture bien rendue de la carrière
krzychu30 (15442) 2014-02-19 13:34
simple, but thanks to the vivid colors and strong textures very attractive graphical presentation!
You´re right-it´s something different and certainly original shot from Alentejo, but a real eye-catcher!
