The seaside "Restaurante Tasca" overlooks the harbour of Baleeira at Sagres in western Algarve, just 6 kilometres east of Cape St. Vincent, the most southwesterly point on mainland Europe.
You can see the location if you click on Map:view and here you can see the red and white striped lighthouse marking the entrance to the harbour in the distance on the right.

hello John ,
You've moved this red bike against the wall specially for the picture ! ;) . A splendid and luminous composition . The white are very well exposed , and that was not so easy with this harsh light .

a glorious composition this John. I love the setting with the bike and woman gazing out over the sea it has an air of intrigue about it. The light and clarity are just superb and the sky the blue I adore and just love to sit and gaze at. Beautiful!!
Regards - Brian.

it`s the little details that help to make a bigger picture as you know,so I can`t help wondering if you did have to position the bike..No matter,it`s a lovely shot with the lines right across the diagonals and nicely saturated colours.
Sharp as a tack, it`s a fine reminder of Summer.
Kind regards Les.

namaste John, another great shot here. Like the warmth of this frame. A great holiday mood is there. Your composition is really enjoyable with the white restaurant at left and the blue sea at back. Great colour contrast. Light is managed as ever masterfully. Excellent one. Tfs.

A clean eye catching image that improves a lot by the well positioned bike.

This is so can Incredibly sharp and so full of summer light and color. I love the angle you chose here, it allows us to see the entire warm vista of the area, and still see the very inviting door into the restaurant. The bike looks great, it seems very happy to be in your shot.
All the best

too bad this wasn't the Restaurante Tosca!
I did happen to bump into a Bar in San Francisco called the Tosca! haha
John, as i'm scanning the image, i'm imagining in my own mind how many photo opps are ready-for-the-taking all along that waterfront with the boats! man......
And I have to say, you exposed this brilliantly.
think about it....the camera's computer is probably confused by the dark background and total WHITE foreground, but you didn't get confused :)
this is one of those photos where i HOPE other TE members appreciate how easy it is to get this photo wrong, as its much more difficult than it looks.
very very cool pic with the color contrasts, the bike, the ocean, the sandstone colors, the boats, the warmth, the sea-salt air...beauty!
By the way, we're side by side neighbours today on the newly posted page :)

I love the blue sky, makes the water look warm and inviting, and no crocodiles lurking in the water!
A patriotic picture, red frame of the bike white walls and blue sky and ocean.
I love it!
P.S. One of my sons and his wife have returned home from Portugal just today, after having a super holiday there.

Amazing how much a bike can contribute in a thoughtful composition/crop. Here, you've nicely balanced the bike with the lady and also have a pleasing line for the eye to follow, out on to the pier, and beyond to the stripey lighthouse. Without that bike you'd have an almost unconscionable amount of restaurant wall to deal with, so well done to get this right.
You know, on reflection and after an experiment to test, I think this shot would still work marvellously even if the top were cropped to just below the lantern; the result, to my mind, would be slightly better proportions. But, as I said to Beverley, I am being pickey at the moment. Overall, the perspective, light and sharpness make this a lovely shot to view.
PS As usual, thanks for the map ref.!

La lumière, les couleurs et la composition font la force de cette très bonne photo.

Well, I have to say, the bicycle is a real attention grabber, with its colour, shadow and total colour contrast, the eyes home in on it immediately. Then the restaurant becomes the next features to enjoy. You have controlled the light on its walls very well and it becomes quite stunning, set against the azure sky and sea.
Your viewpoint is so good in that it gives us close, simple details but, then, opens up a whole vista of further possibilities.
Have a great day,

Special regards to the chosen pov, composition, colors and management of (sort of difficult) light!
The presence of that black & red bike was very important for the excellent composition!
TFS - congrats,
Enjoy your sunday,

You are posting well at the momemnt - I can't keep up! You saw a great opportunity here with the immaculate white restaurant nicely angled so that we view the gorgeous harbour and sky. The colours are vibrant and inviting. Then you beautifully balance the composition by having the bike (that breaks up the plain white wall) and the lady admiring the view.
Best wishes, Ann

This is beautifully composed and I love those vivid sunny colours that we always associate with Spain and Portugal. This must have been a bit of a culture (or should I say weather) shock for your poor camera's sensor and lens. The bicycle is perfectly placed and leads the eye nicely into the image. Did you use a CPL filter or did you under-expose to get those lovely rich colours. Either way, a cracking shot.
Thanks for sharing, have a lovely day
