Ria Formosa is a lagoon that is separate of the sea for an arenaceous lace, interrupted for natural and artificial bars, understands a narrow terrestrial band and a lace to dunar coastal almost parallel to the continental edge, formed for arenaceous peninsulas and island-barrier that serve of protection to a vast area of toad hole, canals and small islands.
Ria Formosa is a wet zone of international importance as habitat of aquatic birds: It constitutes zone of winterred of birds proceeding from the north and center of the Europe. To constitute zone of important ticket for the migrations between the north of the Europe and Africa. It shelters rare species in Portugal. The species makes possible the nest building whose habitats has come to recede.
