I don’t have any trips abroad planned in the foreseeable future but I do have plenty of photos taken in the past which I never presented on TrekEarth. In particular Tyro has provoked me with his recent reportage to come back to the photo archives from my trip to Portugal...
Info about the church from Portuguese Wikipedia translated with the help of Google Translate:
The Church of the Third Order of Our Lady of Mount Carmel or Igreja do Carmo (Carmelite Church) is one of the most important aesthetic manifestations of religious and artistic heritage of the Algarve region. It was founded in 1713 by Bishop António Pereira da Silva, who bought the land, and opened in 1719. Carmelite Father Fray Manuel da Conceição was responsible for the initial project. In mid-century the building underwent major renovation and additions, having destroyed the original facade. The new layout was designed by master mason Diogo Gonçalves in 1747. The works lasted until 1878 (notably with the construction of the towers of the facade).

Ciao e buon fine settimana

The wide paved area in front of the Do-Carmo church, A name I saw throughout Portugal, gave excelent depth to the compo.
The adorned edifice in white dominating and contrast the scene.
Fine details on.

hello M, a nice shot here. Superb architecture at back and a spectacular designed pavement at FG. Good quality photography. Tfs.
abmdsudi (32509) 2013-09-14 9:25
The touch of artwork on the pavement renders such a strong geometrical effect taken from low level with immense depth and perspective. A very impressive work! does play tricks with the mind in lovely shapes and textures that leads to the prominent subject shaded by that lovely deep blue sky. A standout shot rich in colours and clarity. Well done, Congrats

amazing building with interesting foreground you captured.
macjake (45588) 2013-09-14 13:40
so is this the same Church that John had posted a last week? looks very similar.
this is where the ultra wide angle really comes in handy, and is super fun to use.
some strange perspectives could be had here, but you have managed them well as it looks realistic.
the 'artwork' on the ground is a cool addition too.
as is the royal blue skyline.
picture perfect postcard! haha
hope more travel plans are in the works for you!

Wybrałes znakomity POV, dzieki czemu widac też pieknie wybrukowany plac przed Kościołem. Ładna architektura - swietnie zaprezentowana - z filtrem gradacyjnym?
PS. tez sie wstydzę, ale jakos staram sie przełamywać - czasem mi sie udaje

A beautiful building with a long history, and your composite is greats, I love that's you chose an angle that takes in the full design in the foreground. It both looks great and adds wondful depth to the whole scene. The. Olof of the church against the blue sky is very appealing.
All the best

Thank you so much for mentioning me in your note - and for your kind comments on my picture from Portugal too!
You have managed the light in this one better than I did and, particularly, that sky is quite deep blue but not the deep indigo colour of mine - very much better! Strangely enough, you used a polarising filter for this one and I didn't use one for mine!
This is a stunningly clear and sharp photograph, again taken with what appears to be your favourite lens (that Canon 10-22mm), with an interesting foreground feature in the cobblestones and a lovely portrayal of the beautiful façade of this church. Lovely light and colours and spot-on exposure too.
PaulVDV (17323) 2013-09-15 12:14
Portugal has lots of wonderful pavements with interesting patterns. Good you give this pavement so much space on the picture. It also provides an excellent DOF.
The azure sky makes a beautiful background.
Best regards, Paul

I changed trains in Faro for Tavira, but didn't see much of the town. Good textural details in the fg piazza with a wonderful blue sky and superb sharpness. The c shape surrounding the text nicely leads the eye around the image. Tfgs!

bardzo ladna pocztowka. Ladne ujecie z tym napisem na 1szym planie. Piekna architektura kosciola, podobaja mi sie te wiezyczki (prostowales?) i zegar.
danos (78124) 2013-09-15 23:41
very nice the view as the presentation of the church with the foreground shapes made from the white and black stones make the image even more effective.I like the creative perspective with the light management to be superb.
Have a good week,Danos

Name and photo is for sure Portugal and then watching it the very original stones are typical from Brasil and Portugal
Like the way you managed the capture to show them at the FG and the very beautiful church at the back
Yes, Buenos Aires at night is quite dangerous with a good camera, great of you to notice it
To prove we are right just Google Laurent Shwebel, a french photographer killed In Plaza San Martin , just some meters of the English Tower (your post) at 8 Hours in the morning
It happened in February last year
gervaso (9247) 2013-09-16 16:32
Excellent perspective and framing to show this church, with the inclusion of the detail of its name on the ground! Very good colors and depth! Wonderful composition!
josepmarin (56489) 2013-09-18 11:37
I like the fantastic visual field you offers us in this good framing, because of the use of the wide-angle lens, with which we can enjoy the gorgeous architecture of the church, and at same time the impressive graphical pavement in the ground.
The image has a good balance, a great light, a beautiful colours, and is very sharp. The sky is polarized impeccably and adds a nice contrast in the ensemble.
It's a superb work, my friend.
adramad (30945) 2013-09-19 8:26
We do not have to guess the name of this great church, this magnificent vertical POV shows the large square with the church mosaic in the drawing, is a magnificent and elegant building very well captured.
Fantastic lighting and colorful.
The good sharpness also allows us to recreate the image.
Have a good evening.
All the best.

Ładne zdjęcie z Faro, typowa portugalska architektura, tu ciekawy ten bruk z napisem. Kiedys była na TE dziewczyna docarmo. Przyjemna kompozycja. M.
Waylim (23314) 2013-09-27 11:15
I love the inclusion of the foreground that give lots of depth to the iamge. Amazing there were not a single person in it. It seems like it would be a tourist attraction. If it is not after they see this photo, they would want ot be there.
Excellent quality as always, and a well composed image.
Angshu (52896) 2013-10-07 22:34
What I really liked in this shot is the FG.
You have used the wide lens to the best effect here. The writing on the mosaic stones and the cross above leads us to the church in the BG. Beautiful polarised sky above!
Well composed & executed shot!
