Saw this cute Black cat on a step in the fresh air in Portugal.
The folklore surrounding black cats varies from culture to culture. In Great Britain, black cats are seen as lucky and are often given in token form to brides. The Scottish believe that a strange black cat's arrival to the home signifies prosperity. In Celtic mythology, a fairy known as the Cat Sìth takes the form of a black cat. Black cats are also considered good luck in Japan. Furthermore, it is believed that a lady who owns a black cat will have many suitors. However in Western history, black cats have often been looked upon as a symbol of evil omens, specifically being suspected of being the familiars of witches, and so most of western and southern Europe considers the black cat a symbol of bad luck, especially if one crosses paths with a person, which is believed to be an omen of misfortune and death. In Germany, some believe that black cats crossing a person's path from right to left, is a bad omen. But from left to right, the cat is granting favourable times.
The gambling world is afraid of black cats: it is believed that if, while traveling to a casino, a black cat crosses a gambler's road or path, that person should not go to the casino; most players believe that black cats bring bad luck. Info Wiki

You relate an interesting tale about the black cat in folk culture. I find the composition excellent with the cat ideally placed in the frame and making good use of the colour contrasts offered by the doorway. Very good clarity. Bright and sunny again here but somewhat colder than of late; you can't have everything:-)

This is a really nice composition. There is a very catchy combination of colours and the cat is well placed. You made an excellent observation of what is basically a very simple view. I like the title too. I have always been fond of black cats since we had one when I was a child.

Great observation and idea to capture the cat in the backdrop of these colourful stairs. Lucky or Unlucky this cat looks good in your photo. Nice take, presented well with a well written note. Thanks for sharing.

cats in Mediterranean countries come in plenty and normally I am not such a big fan of them. This one however looks very healthy with its shiny fur and actually very pretty.
Well spotted very photogenic scene thanks to the contrasting white and purple steps.
Very good framing, colors and sharpness.
Thanks for sharing and have a nice day

en tout cas cet escalier est tres photogenique et le chat a eu une bonne idée de se placer là!

Hello Iain, very nice image here. I got a similar cat in my neighbourhood, all black with amazing green eyes. Lovely contrast with the white stairs. Good take here.

Intéressante note, moi je ne croit pas a tout cela! ce chat est magnifique avec son poil soyeux tout noir et ces yeux jaunes, bon cadrage et couleurs contrastantes des escaliers, belle réalisation

I love the simple colors of this photo, (predominantly) black, white and red, a very tasteful color choice. Of course the presence of a miniature panther raises the class of the photo by a few notches (I'm a cat lover).
