Photographer’s Note
To lucasgalodoido, paura and other Brazilian friends.
Why? If you take a look at their galleries, you'll find why, specially if you go to the Minas Gerais sections; see, for instance these: 1, 2.
This is also my first post of Viseu, an important town in the Centre/North Portugal, at least in the context of the small country we are, that has very few big towns. It's a charming old town located in the a very scenic region of verdant hills and valleys. Its origins are older than the Roman occupation, during which it had some importance.
The church, named Igreja da Misericórdia (Church of Mercy), is a construction of the late 18th century and looks more imposing than the supposedly more important cathedral, which happens to be in the same square front, to the back of the POV.
The image is a stitch of 6 horizontal shots. I am not satisfied with the result, but I feel I have to show it after the trouble I had obtained it. I wasn't expecting that it was so difficult, specially after having been able to obtain reasonably good stitchings with not so much work using shots taken by hand much less carefully than I did here. One of the irritating things for me is that I find it's easier to stitch images from a set of shots without much repetition, but on the other hand sometimes I discover that if I had shoot a couple of angles more or had used other exposure adjustment here or there, the final result would be much better and also easier to process. The obvious remedy sounds to be making plenty of shots with various angles and exposure adjustment., but the problem with this approach is that choosing which shots to use in the stitch is a nightmare, aggravated by the fact that the processing time of each try can be quite lengthy if you use much images. Here I started with a set of 32 shots and ended up with 6. One of the hardest things to achieve was avoiding broken lines/corners, namely in the staircase. In the latter I simply gave up. I wouldn't be posting if the church was more represented in TE and if I saw good chances of returning in Viseu soon. It rained heavily most of the day I was in the town, so it hadn't many chances of getting decent photos.

Hello Jose, isn't it a difficult and time consuming work to stitch several horizontal shots ? But the result is quite succesful and the church looks like a shining star in the darknes of the night. Congratulations, Tolga

Ola Jose,
nice presentation of the façade of the Church of Mercy,as the dedication to the two TE friends.I like the sharpness and the clarity of the scene, but the background have a lot of great patches of light, like mine at this photo.I resolve the problem with the clone stamp from Photoshop.
Have a nice week,danos

Dag Jose,
I’m always fascinating to see the Portuguese influences in the pictures of our Brazilians friends. So it is interesting to show us the origin of many South American architecture of the past centuries with this beautiful nightshot.

Hello Jose -
A very nice image that is presented very well. The color casts are addressed, the night black is black (without noise), and the technical details are spot on the money. As you know these images are much better presented during the blue hour, but I guess we work with what we have. Well done!
Thank you for sharing.

Hello Jose,
Really look like similar these architectures at different locations, just like in my country we were employed architect from China to built Chinese traditional style architectures especially to built temples. Good balancing of symmetry and tidy work to show the facade of the old church, distinct night photo, well done.

Cumprimentos,

Hi Jose,
It is stunning how you managed the night shot here. The details are so well seen and the framing is flawless. The layers of the staircase adds perspective to the shot and I like it.

Hola Jose:
Gran toma nocturna.
