Photographer's Note

This is a view from the castle walls in Chaves, a city in N. Portugal. It is situated in a very wide flat valley know as the "veiga de Chaves".
This is a charming medieval walled city of historical significance. It is about 10 miles from the Galician border. On the other side, a few miles away, one can find the castle of Monterrey. As a rule, for each Portuguese castle close to the border, there is a counterpart on the Spanish side. It would be nice if another member could post a photograph of Monterrey castle.
My objective in this photograph was to capture the geographical and strategic position of the castle by catching and angle which allowed to see the surrounding mountains and the city below. Historical castles need to be seen from a distance in relation to the landscape, but also one needs to consider what can be seen from these vantage points.
I also love the bluish hue of the mountains in the Trás-os-Montes region of Portugal.
