This is another picture of the beautiful Porto city. This picture was taken in the afternoon with strong light. In general, the people of Lisbon think that the Porto city is a dark, but it's not true. Here, we can see the São Bento Train Station on right side and the beautiful Church of Congregados in background. In right side of the church there is the Avenida dos Aliados and Behind of me the way to Ribeira and to Sé Cathedral of Porto.

The São Bento Train Station (Portuguese: Estação de São Bento) is located in the city of Porto, in Portugal. Inaugurated in 1916, the historical station is known for its tile (azulejo) panels that depict scenes of the History of Portugal. It is located in the Almeida Garret Square, in the centre of the city

The name of the station derives from a Benedictine monastery built on this spot in the 16th century. The monastery fell victim of a fire in 1783, was later rebuilt, but was in a grave state of disrepair at the end of the 19th century. In the context of an expansion of the railway system in Portuguese territory, King Carlos I laid the first stone of the station in 1900. The project was entrusted to Porto architect José Marques da Silva, who designed a building under the influence of French Beaux-Arts architecture.
The most notable aspect of São Bento Station is the large, magnificent tile panels in the vestible. The tiles number 20 thousand, date from 1905-1916 and are the work of Jorge Colaço, the most important azulejo painter of the time.
The panels depict landscapes, ethnographic scenes as well as historical events like the meeting of knight Egas Moniz and Alfonso VII of León (12th century), the arrival of King John I and Philippa of Lancaster in Porto (1387) and the Conquest of Ceuta (1415). From Wikipedia
The Church of Congregados was inaugurated on the 8th of December 1680 and belonged to the Congregation of Philip of Néri and is located at Praça Almeida Garrett.

Its facade is in the Baroque style in the seventeenth century. The windows are lined with modern tiles, depicting scenes from the life of St. Anthony. The windows are already building this century.

The interior of this temple is composed of a single nave and choir, based in Ionian columns supported by three arches.

The decoration of the presbytery is made with panels depicting passages from the life of St. Anthony, and the panels can still see two sets of carved reliefs of St. Anthony.

In the interior of the temple there are the panels, one representing the 'Assumption of the Virgin' and the other the 'Holy Family'.

In the sacristy, are stored great chest of black wood and a screen of the Virgin and Child.

Strong light but good colours and contrasts for thsi well composed city view. A fine side view of the station but the church with its blue decorations (azulejo's ?) also catches the eye.

It is a very ornate train station, and the azulejos in the interior are stunning. This is a very good wide angle shot of part of your city under a fantastic blue sky. You have managed the strong light very well.

A very beautiful "cityscape" under a superb blue sky. The POV very well selected give a gfreat prospect. Nice colors and contrasts well collected. An image rich in details very well colected too. I like the two nice taxix black and green on the right.

in a week I will be hopefully able to take similar shot. I am very enthusiastic about it. However it is very stressful as well: watching yours or Mikolaj shots I realize that there is no chance at all for me to see it all. There are just too many fantastic places in your country.

This photo is fantastic, perfect postcard again.
I love sharpness, colors and exposition.

Olá Aires,
Um dos poucos sítios que eu me lembro do Porto (além das pontes), pois já há muitos anos que lá estive e só de fugida.
Ficou uma foto bem composta, conjugando a igreja e a estação.
Nota-se bem os dois tipos de cores de táxis que temos em Portugal. Espero que todos voltem ao tradicional preto e "verde táxi".

esta foto me faz lembrar de quando cheguei à cidade e quando parti dela usando esta estação. os painéis dem azulejos são mesmo muito bonitos. esta sua vista da fachada da estação e da igreja ao fundo está muito bem feita., boa luz e enquadramento
