I'm back from Porto, one of the most amazing cities I've ever been. It was a great holiday and once again I was convinced that Portugal is wonderful, my favorite country from Europe.
Thanx Annabela (adores) for your advices :).
So I'll start my gallery with an iconic image of Porto taken from Vila Nova de Gaia (on the other side of Douro river).
Located along the Douro river estuary in northern Portugal, Porto is one of the oldest European centres, and registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996. Its settlement dates back many centuries, when it was an outpost of the Roman Empire. Its Latin name, Portus Cale, has been referred to as the origin for the name "Portugal", based on transliteration and oral evolution from Latin. In Portuguese the name of the city is spelled with a definite article as "o Porto" (English: the port). Consequently, its English name evolved from a misinterpretation of the oral pronunciation and referred to as "Oporto" in modern literature and by many speakers.
One of Portugal's internationally famous exports, port wine, is named for Porto, since the metropolitan area, and in particular the adegas of Vila Nova de Gaia, were responsible for the production and export of the fortified wine. The Porto region is also a major producer of cork.

That bridge is an epic structure, and leads beautifully into view of the city. Very magical colors in the sky, raining gold to purple and creating a perfect canvass on which to display this wide and wonderful view. Its not hard to see why you love this city so much, an excellent scene of it.

I´ve been there nearly 20 years ago, and I agree, Portugal is a fascinating country. But it was the country where I made the experience for the first time , that printed travel-guides and the reality have almost nothing to do with each other.

love the diagonal in this shot, it is so enticing and a really striking shot of this City too. Your light management here is amazing because this must have been a nightmare exposure-wise. It works beautifully.
Enjoy your weekend - B.

The bridge Dom Luís I is one of the most amazing structures in Europe. Crossing the bridge over the Douro with the view of the city on the steep slope gives a great feeling.
You found an even higher place to present us this fantastic panorama. Very good that the arch of the bridge is completely visible.
The boats demonstrate well the busy river life.
I understand your enthusiasm.
Best regards, Paul

Excellent picture with a great variation. First the beautiful light of the falling evening, than the view on the city and the river, completed by the bridge that leads you into the scene.

Porto se trouve toujours dans mon collimateur. J'ai passé bien près de m'y rendre au mois de mai. Un très beau point de vue sur ce pont magnifique et une superbe gestion de la lumière très difficile en contre jour.

the panorama you are offering us from Porto is beautiful and promising. The general view of the city is fascinating and you've surely discovered amazing details within the wide area we are looking at. You've achieved a wonderful sense of depth and superb rendering of details despite the very challenging, graduating light. The slight purple tint of this evening view is very lovely. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely weekend,

fine view over the city in the soft evening light.
If I can recall correctly this bridge is build by Eiffel,
and we see it here a lot less frequent than the tower he build in Paris.

Suberbe view over the city indeed. The bridge is truly impressive and provides a perfect leading line for your composition. The evening light is pleasant and the colors beautiful.
I have never been to Portugal yet, but it looks well worth a visit.

Hello Daniel, Yes, Portugal is wonderful and Porto is real gem. I am looking forward to seing your photos. Will be Lisbon too? Amazing view from above of this iconic bridge. You found fantastic less known POV. I remember how I was scared going on this bridges. It is so high and I have vertigo. It was horrible experience.

Good to see you're back with a great series of photos:)! I'll see them carefully. The first one is really good, not just because of the pov, but because the light is so perfect here. I like it a lot, you even got the boat so well placed!
pili51 (1851) 2014-08-29 11:00
this one is certainly different! I never have seen this good POV before.
A superb lighting, a great POV and a majestic subject, very well captured.
The clarity of the image is excellent.
Well done, my friend.
Have a great weekend.
