Stormy Fishing, a photo from Porto, North

Photographer's Note

Away from TE for quite a while I'm back today with a photo taken at Leça da Palmeira beach on my hometown while I was there to celebrate Christmas with my family.
The sea conditions and the spray that the waves were making like if it was fog falling attracted me, along with the cranes at the back.

I wish you a great year of 2007 with everything that you deserve.

Very impressive shot, black & White choice is a very good idea. The presence of the fishermann in the foreground gives to the picture a lot of force

What a brave fisherman to go fishing with these big rolling waves and what a brave photogrpaher to go out to take pictures like that... B&W work works really well here, with the very strong contrast (dark rocks, white foam of the waves...).

Wow, Nice shot! The combination of the different elements is very good, with the wind frothed waves between the huge crane and ship of the port and the lone fisherman on the rocks. Good sense of balance, I love the light, and the sense of the moment is great too. Excellent!

É curioso ver um pescador (será que pesca alguma coisa) em frente a uma paisagem tão industrial. O teu P&B está bonito com bom contraste e um tema um pouco fora do vulgar.
Imaginei que estivesses de férias quando notei a tua ausência.

Hello Paulo, Bonita sensação de movimento dada pelas vagas d'une mar desencadeado, estes estes em momentos lá que o homem não domina mais nada, e deve esperar único a natureza calma-se, o pescador bloqueado toma a aparência de uma silhueta bem preta bem como quebra-o lâmina e reforça o teu enquadramento, desejo-o à minha volta um mar mais calmo e muitas boas coisas para 2007

hello paulo,
I like this black and white composition. The foreground is a little dark but finally act as shadow and make nice effect. I also like the contrast of single ficher and the insdustrial background.

Hello Paulo,
on voit vraiment la force du vent ici, elle arrache le sommet de l'écume des vagues pour pulvériser l'eau vers le large.
La photo qui mêle la nature avec le roc et la mer, à l'industriel avec ce port à l'arrière plan, et la simplicité de la pêhce à la ligne, ici, dans des conditions difficiles.

Une toute bonne année 2007 à toi et ceux que tu aimes.

Excellent photo again, with great choice of b&w. It's really amazing how your best pictures are either b&w or with wonderful saturated colours. This one has a great composition and is very interesting both in background and foreground. Great positioning of that lonely human figure, the strongest point of the picture. Hi Paulo,

its a nice view. I love the view on the port, the rough seas, the small silhouette against all this huge nature. My nitpick is about the rocks, which are a solid black. I would really love to see more detail in there.

Compliments of the season Paulo. Great photo, I love the contrast of the natural and wild set against a backdrop of the industrial port. The fisherman looks quite at home with the sea raging around him also. Thanks for sharing and all the best for you and your family for the year ahead.

Mais uma excelente foto, Paulo. A atmosfera é incrível e dá para sentir a força daquelas vagas a correr entre o plano do pescador (excelente inclusão da sua silhueta) e a zona industrial. Os contrastes fortes a preto e branco são muito bons (mesmo tendo dúvidas se haverá demasiado contraste...) e aumentam o dramatismo da imagem. Muito fixe!
Espero que tenhas entrado bem no novo ano. Desejo-te um fantástico 2007!

Ola Paulo,
Knowing you and your gallery too late in TE, made me miss lots of great photos of yours. Wandering in the depths of your gallery, this one immediately caught my attention.
Man! What a powerful presentation and a genial crop! Only the rocks, the wild waves and the tiny fisherman would give something powerful, you also have that giant concrete wall of the harbour, like a wall or a breakwater against the huge waves. The waves dominate the human power, but the human power is over ominipotent over the waves again. Strict B&W contrast increases the mood even further.

Hello Paulo,

A contrasty black and white which enhances the metallic aspect of the waves. Your composition manages to dwarf the fisherman, making him insignificant compared to the cranes. Congratulations,
