Photographer’s Note

Repost of this view on the charming village of Obidos.

Although founded as of 308 front. J.C. by the Celts, it is necessary to await the advent of Dom Dinis Ier so that Óbidos enters the history significantly.

It is in 1282, indeed, at the time of the marriage of Dom Dinis Ier with Dona Santa Isabel, that the city
is given in dowry to the latter. It will be the same for all the queens who will succeed to him until 1834. These last will not cease preserving its beautiful small white houses and the quietude of its
lanes to the wire of the centuries. The beauty of the places will lead two famous artists in addition to settle there: the painter Baltazar Gomes Figueira and celebrates it painter of origin sévillane Josefa
de Ayala, also called Josefa d' Óbidos.

Today like formerly, charming it village of Óbidos is surrounded of its marvellous wall and is crowned of its strong castle, worthy of a true fairy tale. Tourist
place par excellence, the city sees breaking each year a great number of tourists, as well foreign as Portuguese. Thanks to a policy of very severe conservation, already elaborate under the time of Salazar, Óbidos knew to preserve its seal of antan and, in spite of its success, remains a place very pleasant to visit.
