In light of meditation, a photo from Leiria, North

Photographer's Note

Fulfilling a promise made to St. Bernard, King Alfonso I, after the taking of Santarém from the Moors in 1147, given the dominance of the monks cirtercienses Alcobaça. They undertake the building of the monastery in 1178. The original facade, altered by the arrangements made in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, only remain the porch and the rosette.

Church to be restored again found the austerity of the buildings cirtercienses. The ship is comprehensive, its vault rests, through transverse arches on strong pillars reinforced with engaged columns. We stop at 3 m. soil, the architect was able to increase the space available for the converts and give the church a unique perspective. The aisles are surprisingly vertical.

The cruise hosts the tombs (XIV century) Ines de Castro and Don Pedro. These flamboyant Gothic monuments, carved in white limestone, were damaged in 1811 by French troops of General Count Drouet d'Erlon.

Cumpliendo una promesa hecha a San Bernardo, el rey Alfonso I, tras la toma de Santarem a los moros en 1147, concede el dominio de Alcobaça a los monjes cirtercienses. Estos emprenden la edificación del monasterio en 1178. De la fachada original, alterada por los arreglos hechos en los siglos XVII y XVIII, solo subsisten el pórtico y el rosetón.

Al ser restaurada la iglesia volvió a encontrar la austeridad de los edificios cirtercienses. La nave es de gran amplitud, su bóveda de crucería descansa, a través de arcos perpiaños, sobre potentes pilares reforzados con columnas entregadas. Al detenerlas a 3 m. del suelo, el arquitecto supo aumentar considerablemente el espacio disponible para los conversos y dar a la iglesia una original perspectiva. Las naves colaterales sorprenden por su verticalidad.

El crucero acoge las tumbas (s.XIV) de Ines de Castro y Don Pedro. Estos monumentos de estilo gótico flamígero, esculpidos en piedra caliza blanca, fueron dañados en 1811 por los soldados franceses del general conde Drouet d´Erlon.

Bonsoir Luis,
J'aime la symétrie des colonnes et la profondeur de la composition. Les couleurs du bleu au gris en passant par le jaune doré sont superbes. Bravo.

Visitaste bastantes coisas em Portugal:)!
Gosto deste pov, com as colunas em primeiro plano. Apesar de não ser um espaço fácil por ser demasiado grande, a exposição ficou boa. Gosto de efeito das luzes.

Hola Luis,
sé lo difícil que son este tipo de tomas en el interior de una iglesia, todo un desafío para una correcta exposición.
Una exposición que has equilibrado perfectamente, obteniendo una suave penumbra en las columnas del primer plano, y una iluminación azulada en la nave principal, rematada con la silueta del crucifijo en el centro inferior del encuadre.
Creo que buscaste una imagen directa, agradable y con un buen contraste lumínico, y lo conseguiste holgadamente, la composición es magnífica.
El marco armoniza muy bien con la imagen.
Es un bello trabajo, amigo mío.

Mild light conditions brought an amazing calm ambiance in pic. - and the title perfectly matchs, Luis.
No backlight-effect, and extraordinary depth showing as layeres of colors on the arcs. Lovely.

A superb interior shot, and very well framed. The symmetrical composition is very effective, and the colours are wonderful. So many arches in one shot! And so sharp considering the low light and slow shutter. Very good work to capture so well the solemn atmosphere of the monastery.

Great indoor shot in low light condition which is very very well managed. Lovely in every detailed captured in such a pleasant natural light and ambient. Well composed in excellent clarity with the vital subject in placed perfectly, great sharpness and color tones. Impressive low shooting angle with excellent coverage such an atmostphere with prominent Cross adds the impact strongly. This is such an awesome picture and great photo works, quality shot as always.
