Photographer’s Note
THIS IS A BRANCH OF SEA WHO TAKES THE SALTED WATER TO THE "SALINAS" THE PLACE WHERE THE WATER IS EVAPORATED TO GET THE SALT.
Figueira da foz is a beautiful sea side town in the district of Coimbra, and is the seat of the county government. Situated at the mouth of the river Mondego and sheltered by the Serra (mountain) da Boa Viagen Figueira, it is known as an important port for coastal and open sea fisheries.
The local salt production used to be very important, but many of the traditional salinas have been transformed into fish farms. The local activities linked to the project are mainly: re-establishment of traditional salinas, training of salters, and the creation of a salt-museum. The beautiful long white sandy beaches here have decked walkways, tennis courts, volleyball and other activities. The beach front is lined with cafés, restaurants and good Hotels, and the shops located in the back streets of Figueira da Foz help to attract tourists. It’s also a legal gambling zone, with a large casino. Figueira da Foz still shows characteristics of a sea resort, and those who desire to spend their vacation here, are not only able to enjoy the sea, the beach, the Serra, places of relaxation and gastronomy, but can also spend their freetime with sightseeing and trips in the surrounding areas.
