Photographer’s Note

Santa Cruz church in the city of Coimbra, Rua Visconde da Luz. Founded in 1131 by the St. Augustine fathers, the chapter house and body of the church date from the first half of the XVI century, the work of the master craftsman Boitaca. A doorway dating from 1523 is the work of Diogo Castilho and sculpture by Joao de Ruao and Nicolau de Chanterenne. The triumphal arch dates from the beginning of the XIX century an was built by Jose do Couto. The church houses the tombs of Afonso Henriques and King Sancho I, and there is also a commemorative stone marking the burial place of Nicolau Chanterenne.
