Old Cathedral of Coimbra Photo

Photographer’s Note

Old Cathedral in the city of Coimbra, Largo da Se Velha. Built in roman style in 1162, the principal features are: the gothic cloisters, the oldest in Portugal and some interesting sculpture and tombstones dating from XII to XIV centuries. The Sacrament Chapel dates from th XVI century and is the work of Joao de Ruao. St. Peter’s Chapel is the work of Nicolau Chanterenne, XVI century, where Jorge Almeida, Bishop of Coimbra, is buried. The entrance dates from the XVI century and is the work of Joao de Ruao.

Hi Mikolaj,
Wonderfull capture with perfect pov and amazing colors. The cathedral with its interesting architecture stays in nice contrast against red roofed houses at back. Nice vivid colors.

swietnie sie wyroznia ta katedra sposrod niemal identycznych budynkow Coimbry. Czy katedra jest polaczona tym kruzgankiem z innym budynkiem? (tym na ktorym stoisz)?

Strzelam ...
Pewnie wybierasz się w 2009 roku ponownie do Portugalii. Myślę, iż zakochałeś się ...
Zresztą nie znam osoby która powróciła z Portugalii niezakochana :-)
A jeżeli nie do Portugalii to może do któregoś z krajów gdzie Portugalia miała wpływy :-)
Proponuję na początek Brazylię, choć ciekawiej mogłoby być np. w Macau czy też np. blisko Australii w Timorze :-)

Une belle vue plongeante sur ce bel édifice pas facile à prendre car encastré dans les maisons. Je n'ai pas réussi à prendre cette cathédrale de façon satisfaisante.

This church resembles has a small fortress. Its site and its orientation are goods chosen among the random positions of the houses. A good light makes the photograph very pleasant, with the correctly saturated roofs. Congratulations

A good point of view on this interesting cathedral. I like the surrounding red roofs, which make a fine contrast with the golden yellow stones of the cathedral.

Ficou excelente esta foto. Os telhados dão uma cor viva à fotografia e o enquadramento da Catedral está diferente do que se costuma ver. É pena não se notar melhor as colunas mais abaixo, pois elas também dariam um ar interessante à foto.

Przez pewien czas nie by³o mnie na TE, ale ju¿ jestem i cieszê siê, ¿e od razu trafiam na tak kapitalne foto. Jest ekstra, niesamowicie kolorystyczne w mocnych kontrastach i bardzo dobrym POV.

I am pretty sure I know the exact POV of this one. Many moons ago I have posted a WS with a view like this one, but I think you did a better job making the cathedral stand out more. The compacted pattern of houses and roofs make it more interesting.
I find just two things that would be nice that were better: the sharpness and the dark shadows in the cloister.

or a running lion over orange rocks in the field of houses.
