Photographer’s Note

I was walking in the morning at the Natural park of the International Tejo (Tagus in English). The sunrise in a foggy day.

Natural park of the International Tejo (PNTI) was created the 18 of August of 2000, because it was very important the fauna with high conservation statute. Of the species in this zone, they have most importance the cegonha-preta (Ciconia nigra - stork), a águia-real (Aquila chrysaetos - eagle), a águia-imperial (Aquila adalberti - eagle), a águia-de-Bonelli (Hieraaetus fasciatus – eagle), o abutre-do-Egipto (Neophron percnopterus - vulture), o grifo (Gyps fulvus), o abutre-preto (Aegypius monachus - vulture), o bufo-real (Bubo bubo), o falcão-peregrino (Falco peregrinus - hawk), o peneireiro-das-torres (Falco naumanni - hawk) e o chasco-preto (Oenanthe leucura).

In relation to the flora and vegetation, is very important the extensive zone of the azinho (Quercus rotundifolia Lam.) and sobro (Quercus suber L.), the zambujais (Olea europaea L. var. sylvestris (Miller) Lehr), the zimbro-bravo (Juniperus oxycedrus L. - juniper-tree) and big spots of the mediterranic weeds.

In the diverse ecosystems of the PNTI we meet inventoried about 300 species of plants, 24 of fungus, 154 of birds, 44 of mammals, 15 of amphibians (of the 17 existing ones in Portugal), 20 of reptiles (of the 27 there are in the portuguese territory), 12 of fish, 153 of flyers, among others.

Estas arvores estao lindas com o sol a nascer. Gosot tambem das arvores ao fundo. O chao da floresta a primeira vista parece so negro mas quanto mais olho para a foto mas pormenores aparecem.

Linda esta foto de uma manhã fria com o sol a tentar romper o nevoeiro. É um contra-luz muito bem sucedido no qual o nevoeiro funciona como filtro natural. A composição está muito boa com a linha diagonal formada pelas árvores. Gosto muito.

A dramatic and mysterious shot: the fog surrounding the trees create a veil partially covering the sun. The branches without leaves add fascination to the shot.

Olá Aires,
very informative note.
This light through the trees - or the silhouettes of trees - with the misty background and some glance on the ground create a mystic mood. Those trees right in a line give depth even nothing is really visible. One extra point.

Apesar da ausência de colorido, esta é uma foto interessante, com um acentuado carácter de mistério, uma perspectiva bem escolhida. Acerca desta foto apetece dizer: nem tudo é o que parece à primeira vista! E de facto nesta foto, o nosso olhar vai-se perdendo na riqueza de tons cinzentos e diferentes texturas que vão aparecendo à medida que nela concentramos o olhar.

Olá Aires,
É uma foto com muito potencial mas o contra-luz fez perder muitos detalhes do primeiro plano, pelo que fiz um pequeno ws, que espero que gostes.
Quanto ao Parque Internacional do Tejo (boa nota introdutória), penso que não deve ter assim tanta variedade de fauna, em especial as aves de rapina. A exemplo, o Gerês actualmente só tem 1 (UMA) águia, segundo um artigo do Expresso. Ou, o lince da Serra da Macata onde ningém o vê faz anos mas segundo o ICN (Instituto da Conservação da natureza) ainda lá existe.
A pressão humana é demasiada! Não há animal selvagem, e em especial os predadores, que resita!
Talvez haja esperança...

You certainly caught the decisive moment here with the sunrise and fog nicely silhouetting the trees, which appear in ghostly array. I might have cropped somewhat on the left to emphasize the trees heading off into the distance, but that is personal taste. Very fine work, Aires.

The thumbnail of this shot really does not do it justice. only upon clicking on the shot was i able to see the diagonal line of the trees travelling back through the mist...wonderful. The monotone color really adds to the otherworldly feel of this shot. It seems to convey both heat and cold at the same time. A very well done shot my friend.

Mystic silhouette. I like the amount of lighting and the foggy bg. The thing that I find about most silhouettes, they don't achieve good depth, you have done this with the row of larger trees. The only thing that I feel that you could do to improve this, would be to remove the reflections in the lower area. TFS Rodney
