This is, in my opinion, one of the most impressive castles in Tras-os- Montes. In fact, I prefer the pov from the opposite side, but the weather wasn't that good, so here's one of the photos I got!
It's situated near Algoso and it is known that this place was inhabited since prehistory. This castle dates from the early days of our nationality - it was built during the reign of King Afonso Henriques, the first King of Portugal (12th century) and it has played an important role, it was one of the castles that defended the small County of Portugal from Castilla.

I think that the weather suits the subject nicely, in a dramatic way.
I like the use of foreground elements to add depth and layers of interests.

The ruins of this magnificent castle look quite romantic and exciting in this wild and tough-looking scenery. My excitement is largely due to the knowledge that this was built almost 900 years ago. Such places always make me imagine what those people were like, what were their thoughts, in what ways were they similar to us? The large boulders and the yellow bush were well used for the foreground. The dull weather enhances the slightly mysterious and unfriendly atmosphere I imagine.

The grey cloud above, enhanced the "feel" of old times, the ruins of the castle on the most dominant point over the mountains.
Depth and clarity superbly collected, the note is intersting. Curiosity taken me to look-up the place on Google-map: 41.4894, -6.5633 on the coordinates.
Bom fim de semana,

My favourite subject and the reason I got interested in photography, so I always smile to see a castle, especially one as fine as this. Situated on the crest of the mountain like this, it is in a vey imposing place. It has survived he centuries well and would not look out of place in a lord of the rings movie. I think the light is beautiful, as are the little slices of blue through the clouds.
Thanks as always

Natural looking colours and smart choice of a vertical frame. The hilltop castle makes a fine focal point. Good lead in lines and perspective added by the natural contours of the hill. Nice shadow detail despite the strong backlighting. Tfs!

You may not have preferred the weather, but it's sure made for a moody and very intriguing result. If I didn't know any better, I'd actually think this was taken somewhere in Ireland. The blueish tint in the clouds creates a special atmosphere over these ruins. Very well composed too, the inclusion of the yellow flowers in the foreground corner is a lovely compliment to the entire scene. Sharp, clear and well defined. Nicely done. Enjoy the new week. All the best.

I like the overcast conditions: they add an almost gloomy, atmospheric mood to the image. Good, understated, natural colours too. And a very satisfying thirds composition.
