Photographer's Note

This is a picture from Barcelos I visited two years ago in the Minho, a province right in the north of Porto about 20 km west of Braga. It’s a lovely city well known for the rooster “o galo”, symbol of the Portugal.

The church here presented is the “Igreja da Nossa Senhora do Terçero” built in the 18th century in the middle of the today nice “Campo da Republica” place where a big market occur each week.

This quite simple church has some wonderful “aluzejos” inside, these blue enamels which were brought in the iberic peninsula by the Arabo-andalusian Civilization and became quickly a major portuguese architecture element. In that place, they represent the life of Saint-Benoît.

For the technical part, I played with the layer adjustment curves in photoshop in two main steps. In a first one, I selected the sky area only and increased the saturation (dark part darker and white part lighter...). Then, I made the same adjustment to the whole scene. Then, I ran the picture into Neatimage to clean the resulting noise especially in the sky.

As I mainly focused on the layer work, I didn’t take time to adjust the format and kept the original one. Feel free to submit some improvements regarding the composition.
