Photographer's Note

The Pateira of Fermentelos, is one of the largest natural lakes in the Iberian Peninsula, being located between the municipalities of Agueda, Aveiro and Oliveira do Bairro
Considered a wetland of great ecological wealth, Pateira of Fermentelos soon became a system in which human activities are integrated perfectly into its dynamics, thereby allowing the retention pond. The practice of agriculture and a drainage collection contained in seaweed (for later use as natural fertilizer), allowed the maintenance of a significant surface free of water and prevented the advance of the swamp. This balance between farming and gathering of seaweed, led to a humanized landscape of high organization and diversity
