Photographer's Note

São Vicente.

On the north coast of Madeira, the village of São Vicente nestles in a mountain setting. Its position slightly back from the coast, behind an imposing rock, allows it to be invisible from the ocean, which protected it from attacks of corsairs. Pirates and corsairs made for a long time the main threat to the island. If you have the opportunity to go to Madeira, I would advise you to visit the Madeira Story Centre in Funchal. The museum traces by a didactic way the history of the island.
