Photographer’s Note
More than any mere island, Pico seems a statue to the heavens. Thus does it emerge from the Atlantic deep.
You have to set foot on the island to truly discover its beauty, the mountain views and towns with their houses stretching down to the sea front. There are the stories of whales and whalers and all the faith of a people that grew vines and orchards on hard basalt.
It took five hundred years of human effort to transform rock into volcanic and fertile soil, creating a unique landscape and wine culture, granted due recognition by UNESCO with its designation as World Heritage.
This epic project resulted in the Verdelho wine, perfected down the centuries by the tender care of Franciscan and Carmelite monks.
This picture was taken in the sea front, just when the waves fluted this rocky area.
I'll be posting more picture from the volcanic vineyard culture later.
Hope you like it!

Olá Márcio,
Um "arquipélago de rochas" muito interessante.
Seria bom também alguma explicação sobre o local, na nota.
Cumprimentos,
Francisco

Hello Marcio,
A very special and beautiful view with all these dome shaped rocks. Fine detail and colours and the green little bush provides an extra accent.
Regards,
Paul
