The Portugese archipelago of the Azores are a group of volcanic islands in the Atlantic Ocean. The Gulf Stream keeps the temperature between 14 and 26 degrees C throughout the year giving a sub-tropical climate. Sao Miguel Island is the largest island with the largest city of Ponta Delgada. It was the second island to be discovered and settled (1427). The islands are situated on a junction of three tectonic plates and therefore subject to numerous earthquakes, although often of low intensity and therefore not felt. Volcanic cones dominate the lush green landscape and several have beautiful lakes in the craters.
We were on an organised walking holiday so I didn't always carry a camera. Our first walk was at Rocha da Relva and although not a particularly long one it was very steep. The small fishing village at the bottom could only be accessed by foot, donkey or horse. The small house shown in the picture seemed to be clinging on to the cliff edge. In the WS you can see a wider view of the area.

A well composed image with a good point of view that sets everything in context. The building apparently in some state of dilapidation nevertheless retains a certain charm and makes a good focal point. The sympathetic ambient light brings out the colours to good effect.

an amazing landscape as our workshop illustrates beautifully. This little dwelling clinging to the edge is just wonderful and so full of charm and character. Life in a different world and at, I guess, a bit slower tempo. Love the vegetable plot too!

a good naming of your shot... Dual meaning. The picture is very well composed with the river at one side. Clear and crysp details. Love the colour tone. A very good one with the local's house. Tfs.

Hi Ann, very good picture of this beautiful and interesting composition with the house and the garden on the edge of the cliff and the beautiful sea in the background, very well captured in this beautiful image with good sharpness, light and color. What a wonderful place Ann, superb scenery as your WS shows. This shot fascinates me, it must be challenging (to say the least) making a garden on this steep and rocky slope and I wonder what modern amenities the people who live here enjoy? It doesn't look as if they have piped water does it? No quick drive to the shops either! An excellent shot of a place I know next-to-nothing about. I look forward to seeing more. Warm regards rosemary

A very good diagonal composition with many details in the foreground. This could be a motive for any painter, with all these pleasant colours and the very attractive view.

What a charming scene from Portugal's islands. There's something great about that country and you got the essence. Well taken.

What an interesting and attractive photo. Humans can adapt to almost anything, but I doubt if I could ever learn to live on the edge like here. I almost get a bit dizzy just looking at this view. It's a well taken photo with fine colours which gives me some insight in other people's lives.

Acores must be really beautiful islands(my dream to visit one of the islands after I visited Madeira few years ago).
You present us here really nicely the rural aspect of life on the island.
And the location of this old cottage couldn´t be more picturesque-I wish I had such a view from my window.
Well composed image with really lovely and well-saturated colors(especially different shades of green)

It is amazing where some people live. They grow a nice small garden - and if ever cold enough enjoy a small fireplace. This is a wonderful imaginative photo (as many of yours are). I am not sure I would like this cliff side so close, as I am not so comfortable with heights ... but what a view they have. Very well composed.

Ocean front view from the rock cottage and surrounding garden is idyllic, though certainly not a modern resort but simple life which is more appealing to me.

I just came across your interesting gallery because this fine image caught my attention. It is a wonderful impression of a fascinating place created with the eyes of the artist. The photographer’s perspective is excellent. My compliments also for the note!

The similarity of this scene with many coastal areas in our country is striking! The compostion of the houses only would be different...mud & hay or tiles rather than stones & tiles.
The fact that they sit on the slope, at first glance quite precariously makes thsi interesting. And as I 'wander' around, I see things which are of simple daily use & also a garden being maintained quite well. Thanks also for the WS which provides a wide view of this cliff

a perfect place for some peace of mind and one can`t complain about of the wonderful view. Just to keep in mind to watch your steps after a evening at the pub, it looks very steep here:)Anyway, excellent shot from this interesting Place. I like your well choosen spot for this shot, sharp and clear but i would have saturated the colours just a little bit more. But it is still an excellent picture, well done!
Have a nice weekend.
