We are about to celebrate the end of the World War II. Recently, I happened to read the diaries of those, who witnessed it and just relised, how lucky we are.
I noticed that elderly people care more for anniversaries of patriotic events. But it's the young people who are told to participate in preparations of the celebrations. They don't remember the war times, so how can they fully understand?
This lady stood in one row with young soldiers - all of them came to participate in Independence Day, but how different meaning it must have had for them.
Taken on Independence Day, 11. November, at St. Jacob's Cathedral. The day greeted us with frosty wind, hands went numb, batteries quickly died, I ran home. Pictures remained...
Another shot from this event you can see here

Jednak ręce grabiały, baterie szybko zdechły, a ja uciekłam do domu.... Zdjęcia zostały.

Hi Joanna,
Interesting notes to accompany the picture, and I completely agree with you. It's very much the same in the UK where many younger people don't really have any interest or inclination to understand what it was like for the people who lived through those times.
Nice photo with good lines, and thanks for sharing!
(I've run out of smileys for today, otherwise I would give you one, but have one from me anyway in thought!)
Regards
Lee

Ciekawa prezentacja. Z jednej strony podniosła uroczystość, z drugiej - zabawna scenka.

Pozdrawiam.

Hello Joanna,
Really excellent. A very neat composition with few colours and elements. I like the slight lack of discipline among the soldiers, looking here and there and talking to each other, but the great thing is of course how the line of young military men ends with the old woman. She's a link to history and an important reminder of the past.
Wishing you a pleasant weekend,
Gert

Funny title and nice POV Joanna, the bricks background works very well, a bit soft in contrast... but it still a nice picture, compliments!!

Hej,

Calosc bardzo fajna, no a tytul...

badz pozdrowiona,

mikeo

Hi Joanna,
A serious moment, but you have really managed to give it a certain touch of humour with the perfect line of soldiers ending up so perfectly with the old woman. A very well observed situation and also a memourable picture, as well as a good note.
Greetings from a warm and sunny Gothenburg
Gunnar
