The Old Town in Warsaw, tenement houses rebuilt after the World War II.
Not many people know, that Warsaw was destroyed in 85% after 1945, when the war ended. Most historic places and buildings were razed to the ground. With great effort and national impulse the capital of Poland has been rebuilt.
Tenement houses seen in this capture meet the visitors who come to see the Old Town at the very beginning. During the reconstruction they were raised again based on the Bernardo Belotto's (known as Canaletto) paintings.
There even is a phrase hammered on the wall by one of the biggest arteries in Warsaw saying "The whole nation builds its capital"
Visiting Warsaw on foot you may still see the relicts of the World War II on the walls of some houses and buildings. They are like scars, bursts of fire and bullets, probably some of them still stuck in the brick walls... history...
