Bedding of fog Photo

Photographer’s Note

November. Days are short and cold. Just after the sunset the fog spreads around the Slupia valley and covers most of the town. I climbed up higher this afternoon to capture this phenomenon against the red sky with a sunpillar.

Greetings Henryk. A perfect setting for a ghostly movie.I love the dark shadows and the hint of colour on the grass, the path, even the walls of the houses. Very fine work in its nuances of colour. Of course, the brilliant red sky is something else - splendid. My compliments. Klaudio.

What a fantastic atmosphere you have captured here. There is a perfect line of fog leading us into the frame towards the beauty of the red sky. I can't remember seeing fog and sunset colours combined before. Good work

Lovely dramatic mood for this shot where you worked really well with the light and used the mist in front at its best. The red hues at the horizon create a fantastic atmosphere with the silhouettes standing out against the sky.

Hi,
It's melancholic, it's chilly, it's a beautiful end of a day when everything outside gets quiet. The wonderful silhouette of the smoking roof into the red, late, sunset makes me think of a cosy warmth inside the house which is a 'delicate' contrast with the outside 'foggy' atmosphere. Love the clouds.

You have trully mastered the light conditions and managed to give us great depth in spite of the darkness. Its interesting how you can tell the houses from the trees from the ground with the different shades of black here.

Photography is much more than composing rules or exposure correction. If you use only that you can't get nothing more than a pretty photo. Photography is about emotions, states of mind or feelings...and passing them to the viewer. That's what I try to do (unfortunately failing so many times).

From a technical point of view, this photo is severly underexposed, could use a grad filter due to the diffenrence of light between the sky and foreground and is tilted to the left...but what the heck, when I saw the thumbnail I was immediately drawn to it's beauty, and the lovely colour game...and the fogg...and the spooky silouettes...very dramatic. But much more than that I felt...lonelyness, mistery, cold and an abandoned sadness. Felt as if I were inside a Tolkien story, or expecting D. Sebastião (Portuguese story...not the place to explain it :-)
I don´t have many favourites, but this one is one of them...congrats.

Hi Henryk,
I love the effect fog can have in a picture. The way it softens a scene and alters the mood of an image helps to create some very attractive shots in what might otherwise be a relatively ordinary location.
The fallen log, tangled branches, bare trees, and the silhouettes of unlit houses, with the dying light of the setting sun as a backdrop, gives this image a really spooky feel. Closer inspection reveals excellent image quality and nice, subtle colour tones that perfectly match the mood of the pic.

What a great and dramatic atmosphere ! I dread this month in Europe, the start of the winter, often gloomy weather, just like on this photo... The fog is amazing here,

This is a very romantic and artistic picture, showing the decisive moment, when day goes into night and bright colors are replaced by darker ones. This moment is captured perfectly well with a special mood of mystique created by the fog. Extraordinary beauty!
