Photographer’s Note

My dear TE friends,

It´s Christmas time and i want to specially dedicate this picture to:
- My sons Diogo (15) and Duarte (9);
- My parents, my family and my friends

I love snow and low temperatures. In this cold day of February we have less 27 degrees (-27)

Picture from Bielsko-biala, a lovely city, to a distance of 60 km of the airport of Katowice (50Min) and 90 km of Krakow (1H10Min).

The city of Bielsko-Biala a was created on January 1, 1951 when the adjacent cities of Bielsko and Biala a were unified. Bielsko, which for centuries belonged to the Duchy of Cieszyn, was founded in 1312. From 1457 the Biala a river was the border between Silesia and Little Poland. Silesia belonged to Austria, Little Poland to Poland. In 1723 on the opposite bank of the river the city of Biala came into being. In 1772 Biala was annexed by Austria and included in the crownland of Galicia. In 1918 both cities became part of reborn Poland, though a significant part of the population was ethnic German. During World War II the city was annexed to the Third Reich and its Jewish population sent to Auschwitz. After the liberation of the city by the Red Army in 1945, the ethnic German population was expelled.

I like the undulating curves & subtle dappled lighting in the fg snow. Good graphism of the trees against the lighter sky, with excellent sharpness. Not so sure I like snow. Had about 10cm of snow here on Sunday morning, & it's still lying around in shadowed areas. Tfs!

I would love if snow would come to Italy as well this year.. but for the moment there is no trace of white in South Tyrol.
Good contrast with the blue sky in this shot.

Bom dia Aires, já ando a sonhar com a minha próxima ida à neve para "snowboardar" montanha abaixo. Parece que para já ainda não há muita neve. Esta imagem é muito inspiradora. Gosto bastante das sombras a espalhar-se nesta neve ondulante em 1º plano. Boa captura!

Olá Aires,
I like winter scenes too. But I am not sure about -27 degrees. The last time I had that, it was very cold. Even 200 meters outside wasn't easy and very cold on each part not clothed.
I like the light play over the roofs and houses and the partly snowed trees.

This is indeed a Christmas card view. Love your POV with the snow in the foreground. The light is beautiful and the image is so well exposed. Very nice work Aires.

Hi Aires,
The light in this one is wonderful: warm winter light which reminds me, for some reason, of houses and lanscapes at holiday time!
The white of the snow is also fabulous: just right to be inviting. In fact, the snow does seem to be a fluffy blanket inviting one to jump right in.

Hello Aires. It is a terrible story at points, but the history behind this small town is great. The cold on the other hand is astonishing...how are you able to be outside to take pictures. I imagine the batteries in the camera freezing up right away. Anyway, I love pictures including snow. The smoothness always attracts me. There is a particular texture created by the trees...almost fuzzy, which I enjoy.

Hi Aires,
The undulating snowbank in the foreground really grabs the eye here and the smooth look dominates the entire scene. The POV is well chosen with good shadow effects. The yellow house in the distance adds an extra dimension of colour that enhances. An inspiring note. All the best of the season, Aires...later.

Beautiful compo, colours ans especially light. I love those shadows on the snow. Great winter atmosphere, this is one of the rarest nice winter days, which are indeed superb.

A nice winter scene in the background, perfect exposure and sharpness, but I am not sure that I like the roof in the foreground. To me it feels like it is blocking what could have been an even better composition if you had stood on the edge of the roof (maybe that wasn't possible) instead of the POV from which you took this shot. However, I note that in all the critiques that you have received above, nobody else has mentioned this (in fact many have said they like the foreground) so it looks like I am in a very small minority ;)

Gosto deste ondulado no chão...que se calhar não é chão nenhum mas sim um telhado.
As sombras das árvores projectadas na neve também criam um efeito engraçado.
