Very interesting light on that day pushed me to shot a classic postcard from Cracow. I'm usually far from that kind of shooting, but I thought this one was worth posting.
Tech: I shot three pictures, changing shutter speed to achieve three different exposures (one for the sky, one for the church, one for horses), then blended together using layers, used tone mapping filter (photomatix), then curves adjustemnts, slight desaturation, and sharpening applied to parts of the image.
I know the image is heavily processed, but this techniques helped me in improving a real moody scene I've captured, not creating it. Light and mist did their job good here too.

The mood is very good, but what was your post-processing techique? i think it's fair to be know because this shot is much more than just mist.

Beautiful photo! Very special mood here, this fantastic and surrealistic atmosphere. Neither B&W, nor colored picture, the tones are really great and looks like a Tim Burton film. Really fantastic sky, tones and composition!
delnaja (2054) 2006-11-27 7:20
I like how you post processed the photo, something with an old like feeling.
Indeed, a great mood.

I like the mood, very much, I don't know what you've been doing with photoshop, but this is really original.

Very nice and creative work. Looks like the cart is preparing to go to Transilvania, Dracula's castle

How lucky you were in taking a picture like this.
The composition with the horses behind the Saint Ann's Church is wonderfull.
sam224 (6215) 2006-11-27 8:49
That's a really nice work: the composition is wonderful with the inclusion of the horses and the cart in front of the cathedral surrounded by the mist.
Very good light. Thanks for sharing.
padeg (423) 2006-11-27 10:36
I have to say the postprocessing is worth it in that case. The result is a mix of dream and reality at the same time. The old-classic-postcard effect is successful if that is what you wanted to obtain. I especially apreciate those very soft shadows of the horse's legs on the street.
Thank you for explaining the processing technique too, it is quite interesting.

po prostu rewelacja!! Swietny kadr, fantastyczna kolorystyka i niesamowity nastroj! Brawo!

Hmmmhh.. no sorry, I just hate the processing behind this one, it feels so tacky.. my grandma would have done it, I wouldn't be surprized. ;D ...
It's like an assembly of different techniques that are fighting against each other, there's too much discrepancy, no coherence between them.. like I tell you, it's a personnal view but I'd mots likely see this kind of images inside old people or retirement houses.
Don't take it personally, my own opinion.

Great photo Piotr!
Very interesting techinique, i think i will start trying it myself!
Beautiful "muddy" colors give this very medieval atmosphere.
Your hours of processing were well spent!
Clochette (8076) 2006-11-27 19:01
Ok, that's a heavy post processing, but when it leads to this kind of image, no problem for me. That is amazing, this pic makes me dreaming.
It seems it has been taken out of a movie for children, you know, this kind of movies in which all is possible, in which you can travel from a world to another. Excellent work you've done here, Piotr. This is not exagerated, but just enough to give this very, very special mood.
I love it, and never saw one similar before. My sincere congratulations.

Lots of PP, but great result. This image is stunning. it sends us this feeling of past in a very stong way. Congratulations!

this is one of the best photomatix pp that i have seen, there are no halo, i try photomatix but never like the results probably my settings was not good as yours.
you succeed on the effect. But i am sure the purist doesn't like that !

fajny koncowy efekt. Uzywales statywu i bracketingu? Konie zapewne nie staly nieruchomo, musiales szybko strzelac. To mi przypomina technike HDR (w Obiektywnych.pl jest fajny artykul lonely_ wolfa). Brawo za eksperyment.
jinju (14265) 2006-11-28 21:30
to jest to! Bardziej pasuje na digart.pl niz na TE ale niech ci bedzie. Fantatyczna obrobka, klimat tu rzadzi. Wlasnie jak z filmu.
Luan (12971) 2006-12-01 4:36
WooooooooooooooW....what could I say about this dramatic and beautiful picture. I looks like straight from a Frankenstein movie scene ;o). YOu PP is just perfect.
Incredible picture !!!!!

Hi Piotr! I must say I'm not usually a fan of heavy post-processing, but here it works very nicely. It does look like an old painting, but one I'd be pleased to have on my wall. Thanks for the useful note - it gives me some ideas about how to improve one of my photos I've been having some trouble with! Nice one! Colin.

Niecodzienne w twojej tworczosci.
Czy to juz grafika malarska czy jeszcze fotografia ?
Zabawa z łorkszopem na caly gwizdek tutaj calkiem widoczna, ale rezultaty za oko chytajo...
Ildefonsa, mistrza samego od zaczarowanych dorożek coś takiego nawet by wzieło (hej, moze i kielicha strzelił by pod okazje?).
Trudno sie oprzec nastrojowi...

An other piece of art.
This is like painting, the image is heavily processed but the result is perfectly balanced and finally beautiful.
This photo goes to my favorites.

Excellent shot! Has got a magical aura to it. The low exposure, position of the horses and the dark clouds in the sky, all go perfectly well with the sombre mood of the picture.
