Photographer’s Note

This is Wang temple in Karpacz - a small mountain resort in South-West Poland. The church has a very interesting history. It was built in Norway in XII-XIIIth century. It is made entirely out of wood, without any metal parts, wooden pins were used instead of nails. There are many viking elements in the architecture. In XIXth century the church prooved to small for the local evangelical community so the community decided to sell it to King of Prussia. It was dismantled and transported to Karpacz, where it was rebuilt on a flank of a mountain, at the altitude of about 800 meters above sea level. The tower was added to protect the wooden church from harsh mountain winds. After 1945 the borders shifted and the church ended up in Poland. Today there are about 30 such churches left in Norway and the one in Karpacz.
