"Arbeit macht frei" is a German phrase meaning "work makes (you) free".The slogan is known for having been placed over the entrances to a number of Nazi concentration camps during World War II, including most infamously Auschwitz I, where it was made by prisoners with metalwork skills and erected by order of the Nazis in June 1940.
I have recently been to Auschwitz, it is an experience terrible ... it is very hard but I think it is useful to remember

une belle représentation que ces lampes alignées comme de sinistres soldats au garde à vous. Bon choix du N&B. Un sujet à ne pas oublier effectivement.

Ciao Andrea.Organized evil and proof that human beings are capable of anything, of the basest behaviour if the right mix of ideology, nationalism, hatred, greed and spectacle is applied. It happened again in Cambodia and Yugoslavia and is happening in Syria, parts of Africa...We shall never learn and at least behave as well as animals. Powerful image. Ciao. Klaudio.

N'oublions jamais...surtout en ces périodes de crise où les racismes et les haines se développent si vite!
Impressionnante photo, rendue encore plus efficace par le choix du noir et blanc.

I have never been to Auschwitz and will never be, it would be too hard to me to see this horror. This slogan Arbeit macht frei was stolen a few years ago. But it is very important to remember and to see of what humans are capable.
Excellent black and white composition, powerful photo. Thanks for sharing

evocative post and so appropriate that you post it on this day. It is something that hopefully will never be allowed to fade into history. A worthwhile image made all the more effective in B&W.

Even thou that this place is not suitable for celebrations, I wish to assure you the you have posted
superb monochrome photo, excellent light, nice arrangement, very good viewpoint. Monochrome captures the mood of this scene much more than color could. You have created a really strong composition, excellently framed in vertical format.
Wish you a very nice rest of the week.

un bellissimo omaggio per ricordare le vittime dell'Olocausto e per non dimenticare quella triste pagina della storia.
La scelta del bianco e nero è perfetta e questa fotografia ci immerge in un soggettivo percorso emotivo.
