This is my photo from short trip to Kętrzyn. Very nice small city with so rich history.
The original inhabitants of the region were the Balt tribe of the Aesti, mentioned by Tacitus in his. Germania (AD 98). The town, known in German as Rastenburg and in Polish as Rastembork, was established in 1329 in the Monastic state of the Teutonic Knights and was granted town rights in 1357 by Henning Schindekop.
Rastenburg and the surrounding district was the scene of the First World War's first and second battles of the Masurian Lakes. During the Second World War Adolf Hitler's wartime military headquarters, the Wolfsschanze (Wolf's Lair), was located in the forest east of Rastenburg. The bunker was the setting for the failed 20 July plot against Hitler. In 1945 the area suffered devastation from both the retreating Germans and advancing Russians during the Vistula-Oder campaign. Some ruins of the Wolfsschanze remain. The town itself served as a Wehrmacht garrison town until it was occupied by the Red Army in 1945.
After the war, it was taken over by Poland, as provided for by the Potsdam Conference. Its surviving German residents who had not evacuated were subsequently expelled westward and replaced with Poles. The town was renamed Rastembork in 1945, and in 1950 to Kętrzyn after the Kashubian historian and activist Wojciech Kętrzyński.

Love the title! Very interesting notes, it's always fun to learn about things and places that you just can't quite pull from the picture itself. This would certainly take on a more modern flare, but knowing the history, we're able to see it in a different light. None the less, it's a pleasing look at this particular section of town, and the clouds help to fill the blue sky with some contrast and shape. Nice colors and detail displayed. Have a great weekend....and Rock On indeed!! ;)

Pleasant view from Kętrzyn. Have you visited also the Wolfsschanze?
it looks nice and clean, well composed picture.
We met yesterday with Leszek for a small photo session (with my tripod!!). The green Trabant is still where it was but the sign no photography is perhaps stolen.

First I thought this photo was taken in german town but it's Kętrzyn in Poland.
Good POV, colours (maybe building on the right side are a little inclined but it doesn't changer the fact that it's superb shot. I like it very much.

Un très beau cadrage vertical de cette très belle ville sous une lumière spectaculaire qui fait ressortir les couleurs oranges des toits. Une belle saturation des couleurs.
