Photographer’s Note

Everybody wants to earn much money, but in crisis situation increasing of wages could cause the bankruptcy of a firm.
Especially in coal mine industry where the output of coal is lower than in last year and also income is not high enough. But trade unionists don't understand it. They postulate increasing wages despite of rather poor conditions of coal mines.
They organised spectacular protests with burning tires in front of coal mine enterprises...
There is no class solidarity here. The workers say against management: "This is YOURS crisis. We are not going to pay for it", but they are wrong, I presume. Crisis is common, alas....

Great capture, good idea well seen and perfectly realised. I think this is just the beginning, we are commencing toward worser times.

Hallo Jan!
Again a thought-provoking picture. It's hard, yes, but these people will have to realign concerning their profession - apart from the economic crisis. Coal isn't energy source number one any longer. But I can understand their anger, a somehow helpless anger - and their fear. A frightening photo ...

a photo with a strong message, friend. i like it: the excited faces of the protesting unionists against the flames and the black smoke. good presentation too: that asymmetrical black frame, 'ties' the scene together well.

as to the issue at hand: i imagine, the wages of these polish miners are way lower than in western europe while the coal they produce still sells for the 'world market prices'...

Hi Jan,

I don´t know how it is in Poland, but here I sometimes have the impression that people have started looking around for caves in the mountains where they can wait for the end of civilisation. A bit too much hysteria for my taste. It will be harder, no doubt, but we will lose not more than the (anyway exaggerated) economic growth of the past one or two years. And we didn´t die from starvation then. Those who consumed too much or speculated too much in the past will lose more, but my pitty for them is limited.

Good photo, combining the basic elements of fire and ice, and the thick smoke and angry faces make it really dramatic.

ciekawe i pelne dynamiki zdjecie; podoba mi sie szczegolnie od strony kompozycji. Na pewno ma w przekazie spora dawke emocji... Na poczatku draznila mnie nieco ramka, ale po dluzszym przygladnieciu sie stwierdzam, ze jednak pasuje do calosci ;o)
