Photographer's Note
I'm sure this is a scene in Gdansk that's been photographed about a million times, but when visiting here its a must-shot for any tourist.
The photo was captured in the evening soft light, we had to get here early for the Blue Hour and keep our spot on the bridge deck.
The scene has many of my favorite subjects, water reflections, large boats, unique architecture and even some cranes in the bg to the left.
I wish i could tell you a funny story leading up to this photo, but i'd be making it up :) What you see is what you get here :)
Although Lisa (delpeoples) would be glad to know we did get eaten alive my mosquitos while waiting, as she often does while photographing her famous Salt plains in Italy :)
Enjoy your day everyone
Craig

Hello Craig,
The image was well worth the wait and the mosquito bites I guess, though I am one of this lucky people who normally get bitten. Lovely light and reflections and an excellent point of view. Excellent colours and clarity.

Bonjour Craig
J'aime beaucoup l'effet de calme et de tranquillité qui se dégage de cette image. C'est presque irréel, comme si la fin du monde avait frappé l'endroit.J'aime la construction de l'image.
Amicalement

Hello Craig,
you prove us,that even such well-known scene photographed milion times like you wrote one can present in an interesting and original way.Like you did this time.I think this fabulous evening light is what make the scene so unique. It´s soft, but it helps also to increase a colors saturation a little bit so that they appear to us warmer and so beautiful.
Have a nice weekend

Hi Craig,
There is a very pleasant colour harmony here, with the common red brick colour also used for the boat. A very peaceful scene, the calm water provide a perfect mirror for all parts of the view.
Kind regards

Hi Craig
Oh yes, remember well this scene with the (as you say) many attractive elements. I have some photos that was taken of this scene and of the boat. I totally agree with you that those elements are interesting and attractive subjects. You have put it nicely together and created a harmonic composition. A splendid view from the heart of this interesting city. Even with the grey sky it looks beautiful. A great one:) TFS. Enjoy your weekend.
Best regards, Erling

Hello Craig,
Gdansk is a beautiful city with interesting history. A classic view taking advantage of some lovely light. The gentle movement on the water has disturbed the reflections enough to give them a rather nice rippled effect. There is plenty of excellent detail and good colour.
Kind Regards, Ann

Hi Craig. A nice view of the port area of Gdansk. The reflections are very effective. Everything seems quiet as a Sunday morning. I now see in my calendar - and indeed it is a Sunday. Overall a schönres and worth seeing photo.

Hello Craig - Yes I can see some of your favorite subjects but here the big difference is the colour..... no blue! I love the warm browns and soft oranges shades and the buttery yellow adds a good colour contrast. The reflections are so lovely they are worthy of a frame to themselves. A tranquil atmosphere and a scene to enjoy. Have a lovely weekend. Rosemary

Hello Craig,
It does have a lot of your favourite elements, just the blues are missing. When I mentioned the lack of 'blues', it made me realise just how colour co-ordinated this shot is! There is a real predominance of oranges/browns/yellows; very different from Vancouver.
The bridge has made a fine vantage point for capturing the boat, the buildings and the fine reflections. The gentle ripples on the water have hardly disturbed those wonderful building reflections. The dof captures everything with good clarity.
Have a good day,
Bev :-)

Hello Craig,
I don't remember having seen this scene when I was in Gdansk last month. You show us a fine composition of this harbour with some lovely reflection on the water surface. I like the subtle harmony of warm tones combined with the peaceful atmosphere of the place. Nice detail and good colours, in spite of the overcast weather. Nice shot.
Best regards

Certainly a classic shot, Craig, but there's a reason for that! A good summary of Gdansk's maritime history here, from the Hanseatic days to the Soviet ones... you can imagine Lech Walesa working these docks. The late sunlight creates a gorgeous red glow to the shot that enhances the brick of the waterfront buildings beautifully. Thanks for braving the mosquitoes for this one!

Hi dear Craig
Sorry for my late reaction as weekday was so busy.
Another impressive and wonderful shot.
Perfect framework and stable composition as usual.
Wonderful and tasetful warm red-color touch is so wonderful. The surface of the sea seems to be a mirror. Thank you for your sharing and have a good weekend!

Splendid capture from one of the most beautiful cities of Europe, in my opinion. I like the red predominant color and the atmosphere. Well taken scene.

Hi Craig
I like the mood given by the soft light (cloudy sky actiong as a reflector) and the various brown hues of the old houses and the boat, and their reflections in the quiet water.
Spend a good WE

Gidday Craig
Jeez you've been a busy boy, I can't keep up with you. But this one's a cracker. As you say, it's pretty much got all the elements of interest that you could want in a photo: beautiful architecture, interesting side-subjects, lovely colours and of course the reflections. The light really is beautiful and my heart truly goes out to you and T knowing that you became a feast for those Polish mozzies. So you get double brownie points for that.
Cheers
Lisa
