Photographer’s Note
When their days had been filled
and it was time to die in the summer,
They went straight to heaven in a coach-and-four,
the soldiers of Westerplatte.
(Summer was beautiful that year.)
They sang: "Ah, ‘tis nothing
that our wounds were so painful,
for now it is sweet to walk
the heavenly fields."
Konstanty ldefons Gałczyński, The soldiers of Westerplatte.
Kiedy się wypełniły dni
i przyszło zginąć latem,
prosto do nieba czwórkami szli

Cze Mlagoska!
A mnie ten pomnik niespecjalnie sie podoba, dosc socrealistyczny mi sie wydal, gdy go kiedys, na szkolnej wycieczce widzialem z bliska. Faktem jest, ze przez Ciebie swietnie sfotografowany zostal, dobra odleglosc, dobra perspektywa. Poza tym, czesc bohaterom.
Szacun!

Hi Malgorzata,
Good of you to include some "human presence" in this picture. Not only for some extra colours but mainly to show the proportions of this impressive monument. A very fine composition!
Kind regards

czesc Malgorzata,
ladna fotka od westerplatte.
you provide us with a (maybe in Western Europe) not so famous episode that shows the braveness and pride of Polish Soldiers face to a mighty and terrible enemy

WItaj Malgosiu,
Od razu przypomnialy mi sie czasy szkoly i lekcje historii. Pamietam, w ktorejs ksiazce widzialem podobne ujecie. Bardzo ladnie to pokazalas. Smutny pomnik posrod zieleni...no coz- historii nie zmienimy..
Pozdrawiam,
Darek

tak sobie pomyślałem żeby też wstawić coś rocznicowego - To miejsce, ten pomnik to symbol.
Tutaj wszystko się zaczęło.

Ciao MArgherita. Ecco come comporre una granfe foto con la massima naturalezza. Ottimo il dettgalio e la saturazione. I turisti, piccoli piccoli, ci danno una idea dell'imponenza del monumento.

Ciao Malgorzata,
beautiful image, very well realized, of this monument to the soldiers in war. Excellent sharpness especially in the vegetation. Good choice to insert the people in the photo to understand the correct dimensions of the monument. Compliments!
Ciao, have a beutiful day!

It looks like a beautiful memorial surrounded by so much vegetation. It looks a peaceful place, so difficult to imagine how it was in war-time. Perfectly composed on the left, looking to the right. (Just as we read!)

Hi Malgorzata,
you show us this significant memorial from a very well working POV. The accompanying poem is really touching. And you are adding to the other compositions here on this site that recall this terrible crime a very important and moving image. Thank you!
Warm regards

Hello Malgorzata,
sure, this must be present on TE. While praising the technical perfectness of the photo I must admit that I do not like this monument - for me it is too monumental, too glorious. My opinion on the WW II. (and WW I.) is much closer to the poem you have given in the note. Suffering, humiliation, death of innocent people - this was the war in my mind.
