View over Gdansk II Photo

Photographer’s Note

To get the best view over Gdansk City Centre, you have to climb (or drive) to the top of Góra Gradowa (46 m)
There are unchanged old fortifications for over 100 years and a 16-metred cross commemorating 1000 years of Gdansk and 2000 years of Christianity. (Milennium Monument)
Now all the forts have been renovated and Centrum Hevelianum was opened for public where you can admire exhibitions and revitalised fortifications.

In the background you can see a green building- ZIELENIAK, in fact it's the only skyscraper in the centre, built in 1969, its name is taken from its colour (zielony=green). It's UGLY...has 17 floors and its height is 72 m to the roof. Now it's a business centre (without parking lots:))))

Hi Gosia,

striking one with the shapes and colours... loved the green path leading the eye to the red cross goshia... loved krakow a lot, and i was invited to gdansk by some colleagues... soon to go there i hope... cheers... korkut

Dobra nota! Lubie, jak ludzie pisza co mysla o miejscach badz tez obiektach. Jest to bardzo uzyteczna wskazowka dla innych, dlatego sam tez nie owijam. Kompozycja dobra a kolory jeszcze lepsze.

Well chosen angle. The cross really appears to tower over the city and the tower on the right creates a nice secondary element within the picture. I might have perhaps tried to correct the lens distortion a bit in order to have a perfectly straight tower but that's only a minor point of criticism.

nigdy nie bylem w Gdansku!! Az sie wstyd przyznac!! W sopocie juz kilka razy bylem ale zazwyczaj to weekendowe pobyty u starych znajomych, z racji na to ze czasu jest malo a dni naleza do tych mocniej zakrapianych to nie ma okazji by sie wybrac do tego pieknego Gdanska...
Ale przy kolejnej wizycie sie poprawie..
Ciekawe zdjecie z interesujacym krzyzem i pieknym swiatlem,

I have seen you elsewhere last week :)

I think you know how to effectively use the green grass patch leading to the wooden sculpture and knowing how well to position your subject of interest. The vertical composition, choosing a good blue sky for contrast. A woman standing alone.

These are signs that tell me of a good photographer's work.

I am impressed.
