Another photo from the medieval city of Toruń, one of Poland's 13 cultural world heritage sites according to the UNESCO.
I suppose the UNESCO didn't have this "urban art" or this rundown former industrial area in mind when awarding Toruń its heritage status. But this is only a few blocks away from the celebrated Gothic and Renaissance buildings of the Old town.
I think the young man is wearing another piece of "urban art" on the back of his head. Poland, I discovered, is a land of tattoos (just like Sweden).
Here is a larger version.

Recently I was in Spain and my conclusion was that Spain is the land of tattoos :) I guess that tattoos have become popular worldwide.
Graffiti artists have climbed high on the walls here to show their creativity.
A beautiful contemporary cityscape!
Best regards, Paul

Just like Graffiti tattoos are popular everywhere nowadays. I think one has to be a conservative person if you want the same picture your whole live on your body. I should like to change it often.
The graffiti is always a fascinated ornament in town. Maybe there will be one in future which will be placed on the UNESCO-list.

Snyggt kort.

This urban art does brighten the street considerably. I like the juxtaposition of the modern 'art' against the old brickwork. Always good to have people in a street scene and this couple are perfectly placed.
A great image.
Kind Regards, Ann

Nice scene and curious graffiti.
I like frame, colors and sharpness.
ourania (38952) 2014-08-16 11:26
a very fine composition, the perspective you chose and the timing of the capture are excellent. The couple offers a tranquil and charming daily life scene, there's harmony in their relationship and colours and the colours of the environment (including the sky) are harmonious too. I like the sense of space ahead of them, definition is superb and allows us to study the old industrial architecture and try to decipher the urban artistic expression. Congratulations and thank you!
All the best, have a lovely evening,

Interesantan tekst o starom gradu sa opisom, lep pogled i trenutak ...
Dobar trenutak snimka i kontrast, lepo pokazan mladi par i slike na zidu, lepe boje.
Lepe slike na zidu.
Prijatno vece i mirna noc, sve najbolje za vikend, srecno.
An interesting article on the old town with a description, a nice view and a moment ...
Good time recording and contrast nicely shown the young couple and the pictures on the wall, beautiful colors.
Nice pictures on the wall.
Good evening and peaceful night, all the best for the weekend, good luck.

The two figures dressed in black stand out against the softer and cooler background.I have never seen graffiti as big as this but the aart work does look impressive (to me) and in your picture it blends perfectly and provides fine contrast with the brick walls of the old building. Such graffiti must have quite an impact on the overall ambience of a place.
Thanks for sharing and have a nice weekend.
williewhistler (15789) 2014-08-16 12:57
the contrast between the Street art and plain brick buildings couldn`t be greater,it makes for an eye catching photograph with the dark clothes of the couple adding an extra dimension to a well spotted scene.
Best regards Les.
worldcitizen (7890) 2014-08-16 13:02
Another great scene from a grittier street in Poland. I like the red brick and the colorful graffiti. Since the couple is completely dressed in black the colors around them can really pop out. I like it. :-)
Gerrit (51684) 2014-08-16 13:36
The title is quite funny here and the place has an appealing strength.
The young couple forms a fine connection between the old industrial buildings and the street art.
kasianowak (7723) 2014-08-16 13:50
As you said in the note to your street band photo - graffiti makes for great photo subjects. Someone got really creative with those walls - I admire the colours and ideas - what are all those creatures caught in the net in the bottom part? I'm not sure whether the artist invented them or if they come from some kind of cartoon or computer game. In any case, I could spend hours looking at this kind of art.
In my times tatoos were kind of taboo. O tempora o mores. ;-)
Have a nice Sunday

Bello scatto, ben inquadrato e ben realizzato.
tyro (22986) 2014-08-16 15:51
This, I imagine, is just your style - to wander off the "beaten track" and explore the areas of cities where most tourists would not venture - but that lets you experience the true life of a city or town and also to come up with interesting images like this one.
Your photograph shows the very well executed graffiti in superb detail and with wonderfully vibrant colours and, as always, the inclusion of a loving couple, walking before it and perfectly placed in the frame, adds much appeal.
An interesting note and a photograph with lovely light and colours, perfect exposure and excellent details and sharpness.
InasiaJones (31562) 2014-08-16 16:00
Coincidence or carefully planned, but I like how the couple is framed in the middle of the illustration, precisely in an empty space between characters of the scene.
I like the industrial aspect of the environment, with an urban aura provided by the tags and graffitis. Great street shot Gert!
lousat (85018) 2014-08-16 16:04
Hi Gert, you have raison,it's sure that these graffities are not the main raison for the heritage made by UNESCO...ehehe..but i like the contrast of these street peintures and the old abandoned walls,an excellent composition made with the usual top quality.Have a nice Sunday and thanks,Luciano
rychem (30339) 2014-08-16 20:39
Not the best place for the graffiti, but I think this graffiti itself is a good piece of mural, very nice scene with young people in the FG
abmdsudi (48769) 2014-08-16 23:26
Great attention to detail and focus here and this is well worth the shot of artwork beauty and its supporting props in a nice juxtaposition. Great colour, contrast and lovely specks of vivid colour to boost the visual effect. Fine shot, Congrats

Hi Gert, Knowing me you could be pretty sure I will jump at once to check how many sites has Poland on the UNESCO list. Fourteen :). But three of them are shared with neighbors, so it can do. I haven't see three of them.
It can happen everywhere that very near the centre there are some abandoned objects, like this factory here.
I h do not like greffiti on the wall and on the skin as well. Someone of my recent guests told me that tattoos are so popular in Poland. I haven't noticed it. The visitors notice other things.
Nice composition with contrast - red brick against this colourfyl wall, nit specially artistic, and the couple in black.

Hello Gert. A young couple walks along a painted wall with graffiti. Both, however, are busy with other things. In the past, people complained about the graffiti. Today graffiti is widely accepted as a new form of art in public space. By the way, the photographer Brassai (1899 - 1984) interested early for graffiti.

Viewing TE photographs is like having a private trip around the world and seeing the not so touristy sights!
This is a beautifully composed shot with so many contrasts of colours and textures.
I suppose that urban art and the rise in the frequency of tattoos go hand-in-hand, just like your couple!
Have a great Sunday,
trevormoffiet (3112) 2014-08-17 4:30
SnapRJW (31629) 2014-08-17 6:20
Hello Gert - I like your observation regarding tattoo's being a form of urban art. Like the graffiti we see adorning many walls these days, some are beautifully creative and others just a waste of space, walls or human skin!. I note that both these young people are dressed in black, ideal in this situation as they contrast well with the old industrial landscape. Well seen and not the usual upload one expects from a world heritage site.
Take care and warm regards

Hi Gert, The street art is always interesting to look at and one can find the inspiration from the original artist to inspire his own . This one here is unique in terms of colors and design. It is a nice corner for this piece of street art and it is a good contrast to the old architecture which attached to it. The couple dressed in black are helping to stand out the street art too. The tattoo on his neck mingles well with the art design perfectly. This corner is very photogenic and you have captured it with good tones and colors with details. Thank for sharing
jcpix (13846) 2014-08-17 21:15
Well, this art is certainly a lot more attractive and purposeful than the graffiti from one of your recent backgrounds. UNESCO may not have envisioned this result, but it sure beats the alternative, yeah?
Would it be too obvious to state that the couple is key to the success of this picture? :) There's still plenty of interest in the colorful paintings, but their presence gives it life, literally! And how great that they're holding hands and virtually dressed alike...great dark contrast and even an endearing quality. The urban streets continue to produce through your lens, another great shot! Enjoy the new week. Take care.
jhm (146618) 2014-08-18 5:08
This couple fits perfect at the graffiti exactly an extra addition to the graffiti.
Lovely perspective and depth picture, also nice panoramic view about these area.
Composition and presentation are pleasant.
Very well done, TFS.
Have a nice new week,

I visited your gallery today but I chose
this shot because of your useful notes
I agree with you that Unesco didnt have
this urban art or this rundown former
industrial area in mind
your shots bring always a message
thanks for your inspiration
have a nice time

so this is the prison right? no? yes?
looks familiar...is the large circular part of the prison just up the road from here?
of course you waited for the people to enter the scene right? :)
its so strange to see such artwork on these older buildings. I always try to image what the original builders would think of this NOW.
fun shot, always enjoy seeing Torun!
adramad (42015) 2014-08-19 8:32
Great composition with this original and colorful "urban art", the area looks a bit abandoned, although the couple gets a vital touch to the scene.
An image to enjoy with its beautiful color, high brightness and perfect sharpness.
Very well done.
Have a happy day.

Beautiful, blue mural to match the sky, well contrasted with the red brick of next-door. The inclusion of the youth brings a personal touch.

graffiti always attracts my attention. the street was very interesting picture of two lovers. I really liked the composition. congratulations.

Very creative combination of wall art and graffiti. But, however beautiful the art works are to me a graffiti is a graffiti. Nicely captured and having the couple in the image provided scale. Love the colors. Well done, tfs.

Very fine picture from Poland showing this very interesting street art picture. Very fine graffiti which is really a pice of urban art. I,like yourcontribution to TEhere very much.TFS.

Here, in our cities, it happens more and more. They are not always good, but I like to go around and take a few shots once in a while. I wouldn't miss this one also if I passed there:)! It's a nice shot and the young couple passing in front add a lot!
Angshu (56740) 2014-08-26 23:43
The graphic art is fascinating and actually lightens up the dilapidated factory wall. The artwork is of very high quality and the one at the lower level is reminiscenet of the Japanese Manga style. The couple does add liveliness to the picture.

Hello dear Gert,
I missed this wonderfull capture ! Amazing graffiti Wall creating a perfect background for this young couple.
TFS and best regards
nikkitta (17066) 2014-09-02 13:20
Like that kind of abandoned industrial buildings with the add of graffiti is a good mix, but the inclusion of the couple in black is what made the capture so eye catching
And the man have a tattoo and walks hand in hand with the woman creating for instants a romantic composition
Well done, regards
