Photographer's Note

Torun - is an ancient city in northern Poland, on the Vistula River. Its population is 205,934 as of June 2009. Toruñ is one of the oldest cities in Poland. The medieval old town of Toruñ is the birthplace of the astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus.

Bridge Gate.

Originally called the Transit gate or the Ferry gate. It owes its name to the crossing on the Vistula River by which it was situated. The current name comes after the permanent bridge built in the years 1497-1500 by Piotr Postill from Budziszyn. For a long time, the bridge in Toruñ remained a second bridge on the Vistula River, after the bridge in Kraków. The gate was built in 1432 by Hans Gotland (the builder of the tower by the old town church). It is unique among towers, as it has a battlement and rounded shape for protection from artillery fire. Apart from defensive functions, it was used mainly for transport and control purposes. Metal plates which mark the highest level of water in the Vistula River from the XVI to the XIX century are still mounted on the gate.

A splendid viewpoint on this massive gateway that invites us to step through and explore further. The row of street lights on the right helps to give the composition great depth. Well exposed and with pleasant warm tones. Very good sharpness.

Splendid done with the 5 second exposure time.
We see nice, the red lights of the car in a long line on the way.
Wonderful contrast image and pleasant contrast between the nice enlightenment facade and the dark black sky.
Sharpness and clarity be superb.

Hello Krzysztof,
The wall, gate and buildings inside would be impressive any time of the day but get a special appearance from the lights in the night. The red lines of passing cars and the street-lamps looking like stars further back provide a fine border to the composition.

Ja zawsze lubialem robic zdjecia bardzo wczesnym rankiem, gdy ciagle mrok, nie ma ruchu. Zawsze cos wisi tajemniczego w poblizu. Sceneria pekna, dobre swiatlo, kolory o ostre detale architektury. Po ciaglych liniach wnioskuje ze nie bylo tak pozno i samochody byly w ruchu. Interesujaca notatka
