Caesar’s Arch (Łuk Cezara) in the city of Torun. Caesar’s Arch is made up of three town houses whose lower parts were demolished to make a passafeway. The Baroque town house at 37 Piekary Street was built at the turn of the XVII and XVIII centuries. Following a design by the architect Karl Caesar, it was restructured in 1911 when the ground floor was converted to form a way through for traffic between Old Town and the Bydgoskie Suburb. The passageways under the adjoining buildings date back to 1936. They were constructed according to a design by the engineer Andrzej Tłoczek, who was the town architect and urban planner and the designer of the pre-war urban developmental plane of Torun. In the years 1936-1970 trams ran under Caesar’s Arch.
