Photographer’s Note

Minor Basilica of St. Vincent a Paulo in the city of Bydgoszcz, aleja Ossolińskich. Roman Catholic church was erected in 1925-37 as a votive offering for return of Pomerania to its motherland. This monumental neoclassical building was modelled on Pantheon in Rome. It is the largest church in Bydgoszcz and one of the largest in Poland with a capacity of about 12 thousand. Constructed on a plan of a circle Basilica is topped with dome of reinforced concrete. Its height equals 65 m, length of NE axis is 81 m, surface area amounts to 2700 square metres, and a total capacity is 135 000 cubic metres. Main entrance with monumental pillars and “The Door of Blessings” made by a local artist, Michał Kubiak is particularly worth attention, not to mention stained glass windows designed by Prof. Wiktor Zin. In 1997 the church was elevated to Minor Basilica status by the Pope John Paul II.

Hello Mikolaj,
Good point of view; the framing from the street bollards echos the columns of the basilica. The person walking across the top of the path provides a sense of scale. Very good colours, but perhaps lacks some sharpness.

Znam ten kosciol. Raz i drugi go widzialem. Znajduje sie on blisko stadionu zuzlowego Polonii. Twoje zdjecie nic nie przeklamuje. W rzeczywistosci kosciol robi rownie kolosalne wrazenie. Przynajmniej na mnie. Kolory obledne. Mialesz szczescie z pogoda.
